Does anyone use a 'crank up' satellite dish/system in their caravan? We have bought our first caravan - just changed from a motorhome. We used to have an automatic satellite dish on the motorhome which was great, but will need to install some sort of satellite system in the caravan. The automatic ones are extremely expensive compared to the crank up models. But, which is best? Is it as easy to find the satellite using the crank up one as they say it is? Don't want to use a tripod model. Any comments would be useful, thanks.

I have an automatic satellite fitted to my van but have had experience of the maxview crankup system as a close friend has one fitted .
There Ok but not as easy to align as the maker's would have you believe .
Have you considered a Satellite Dome as there reasonably priced .

Yes we have considered a dome. Just thinking of the cost and if we changed the caravan in few years time, it would be a waste of money. Decisions, decisions!!

Why would it be a waste of money ? Satellite domes and satellite systems e.g Oyster , Katherein , Chrystop are all designed to be removed and re-fitted to your next caravan / motorhome .
My present system has been on my previous two caravans

I have a satellite dish which clamps to the hitchlock on a pole, to find the satellite I switch tel on + the sat receiver, then info on remote, this shows signal on tv screen press 1 on remote this gives a pitch note, go out side move dish 28% east. When on satellite the sound changes to  high pitch, a bit like a tunning fork, high sound better the signal, lock the dish check the picture, press exit from remote thats it. It sounds complicated but ones you get used to it, its quite quick to set up & picture perfect, my system cost £50 at Maplins, just returned from Scotland used it all the time, no reception on digi box.

Bought my tripod system £16 from ebay. Tried it at the weekend and couldn't believe how easy it was to set it up.
