Well it seems nothing is, the thieves returned last night with burning gear and in full view of the cctv stole our caravan, they also burnt off the locks on another van and wound up the jacks.
It all took less than 15 mins for both vans, the second van they did not take or not as yet. The toe vehicle used was a silver pick up with what looked like Irish plates on. the police are checking this now.
We can but hope but it seems like our van has gone, we had only been down to the van yesterday to put in the awning and wash it ready to go away next week, we will have to cancel the site and the friends we were going to meet.
I hope they get caught but I have my doubts, and we loose our pride and joy.
So sorry to hear about this. Thieving scum, they just take what they want and don't care about how the owners are affected. Trust you were insured and can replace your van.
Ah no! That's awful news! hope you get it sorted quickly, how long do you have to wait to see if they find it before insurance can start looking at a claim? We are bringing our new van home at the weekend and I'm seriously considering adding some more security to the already planned hitchlock and wheel clamp. The storage it is going on is silver graded, but as we are all too aware, if they want it, they'll get it. The salesman that we dealt with said its a horrible way to think but it's all about making your van a less easy target than the others in the same place. But how far do you go?
So very sorry that its messed up plans for you, here's hoping that whatever happens, it gets sorted really quickly for you! Big {{{{{hugs}}}}}
We have notified the insurance and the loss adjuster is coming down this week end to look at the site, it was a silver registered site.
To be honest if they want to steal it they will no matter what you put on them. The sort of equipment they use is very powerful, the alco hitchlock took about a minute to burn off watching the cctv recording.
Scum, utter scum. So sorry to hear this has happened but whilst certain swathes of our communities remain untouchable, no amount of security is going to keep vans safe.
Remember, when you see the loss adjuster, no matter how friendly and charming he / she is, he / she is NOT on your side.
The loss adjusters job is to reduce the value of the claim, if possible to zero. The position of the loss adjuster in life is about equal to the theiving scumbags who nicked your pride and joy
Words fail well they don't but I can't say them here. So sorry to hear of your troubles have you alerted crisis so they can so what they do.
Why not also put all the details on the forum so we can all keep an eye open for it. A picture would be good also if you have one.
If it was Irish plates may well be across the water by now I am afraid to say. Wouldn't it be good if every caravan leaving the country had it's crisis number taken and checked with proof of owner ID required before embarking on any ferry.
I'm a pipe fitter by trade and regularly use oxygen and acetylene burning equipment. I would think that there aren't any mechanical security devices available that would be resistant to the use of burning equipment. Most wheel clamps and hitch locks are made of steel and will burn easily, and with a little skill without damaging the surrounding area. I could certainly remove my own hitch lock and wheel clamp in a couple of minutes with minimal damage. I can't see an answer to this problem. I'm not sure how the wheel clamps that clamp through alloys work but if burnt off with burning equipment would that cause too much damage to the wheels? Good luck with the return of your van or insurance. Dixie
I just think the storage site should have responded better knowing that organised caravan criminals often return to the scene to finish the job. I'd be asking questions of them!
I think the only way is to remove the wheels and take them home use those metal winter stands with locking wheel nuts. Not to handy for the summer when you want to get going in a hurry though.
Omg, couldn't beleive it when I read this. I am so sorry for u,feel sick in the stomach thinking about it. Hope you are able to get a replacement ok and get away soon. Xx
