I have recently aquired a 2004 Elddis knightsbridge SE.
It's the first Elddis I've had and the first caravan with an alarm as standard.
The battery is going flat over around 24 - 48 hours when not hooked up to mains.
There is charge coming from the charger - checked this by removing battery and hooking up to mains and then checked there was a 12v charge across the battery terminals.
I've charged the battery independantly and put back on. I did'nt activate alarm and the battery did'nt go flat over the next few days sitting on my drive.
I then put on the alarm and within 2 days the battery status light in the van had gone to red indicating low battery.
I'm leaning towards either the battery is'nt keeping charge and is discharging because of it's age (2008) or the alarm is some how draining it.
Does anyone know if the alarms can drain the battery when not hooked up to mains? (It has'nt been going off randomly and seems to be working correctly)
Alarms do draw power from the battery, but I would expect longer than you are getting. If the battery is 5 years old, it could well be passed it's best. After you have fully charged the battery, what is the voltage across the terminals?
You need to check the battery with a meter as its 5 years old which is about right for not holding a charge,If you have an aerial booster and this is left on this to will drain it but i suspect the battery because of its age..
How did you check for the 12v over the charger terminals then, as per your first post?
As mentioned earlier, the battery shouldn't drain as quickly as this for the alarm being set, so I'd 2nd guess weak battery too, not holding charge.
