I had our eldiss super sirocco 2011 model serviced today at catterick caravans, I was told on the phone it would be £179.99 for a twin axle, no probs, even though it was £129.99 last year with a wash included,
So goes to collect the caravan after its service, the bill was £223 and it hadn't been washed, when I asked, the miserable faced lady said we don't include that now, policy has changed, but I said it wasn't mentioned when I booked it over phone, so then asked why was the bill £223, she said we have changed the BPW hub bolts, they need changing, so I asked why didn't you call me before you did the work? Her reply was its on our posters, we don't have to, so I asked whee are the posters, her reply was there, she pointed to an A4 printed piece of paper will all these prices for servicing etc, wich was under a shelf on her desk, I said its ridiculous ! So paid the bill, went to the caravan, went inside, what a mess, there was electrical wire clipping, screws on carpet, carpet had bits all over it, the mechanic had left an old oily dirty mat inside, I kicked right off. So a manager came out & apologised and will give us a free valet when were back there. Basically it was the most complicated, annoying, service I have had from catterick caravans, even the lady who looked around the caravan when I dropped it off, I asked her to inform the mechanic no shoes or boots inside, so she went inside to put a sign on the window, she had stepped over the mat just inside the door & took her dirty shoes off on the tan new carpet, I just thought she is thick............

This is what I found at Catterick too
Catterick used to be a lovely family run dealership
their attitude to customers was second to none
but since the big expansion and the lads getting their backsides in the big chairs in the boardroom it has turned to S***e and as for that woman Ha You would not get sick of slapping her !
Catterick Never Never Never !
Many caravan dealers suffer from a lack of integrity. If you find an honest customer friendly one you are very lucky. Tell us all!
My dealer sold me a new Bailey which needed work from new to make it safe. They said the work would cost about £500. Trading Standards sorted it out . The van came with fixed price servicing . On the first service they charged an extra £30 plus extra for incidentals. All Bailey could say was that they should not do that.My second service was done by amobile engineer who was transparently honest and far less expensive.
Are dealers so thick that they think you will just accept bad service. I wont buy another van from them nor use their workshops -why cant they understand that customers will not be cheated?
Sorry to hear this Leebo but we've also suffered at the hands of these most unprofessional dealers. They haven't a clue about customer service and buying a new van from them has been a miserable experience. We thought buying local to us would be a good idea but its been so bad I would go to almost any length to avoid darkening their door again. Thankfully our new Sterling has (so far) proved to be sound and (touch wood) problem free. I will hope to continue to use a nearby mobile service if as I believe he's Swift approved.
We bought from Tilshead caravans, Salisbury and had a great experience from my initial email to hand over. Everybody was very helpful and because we had never owned a caravan before we appreciated all the hints and tips. Servicing was expensive but we put it in just before the warranty expired (it is a pre-owned van so only 1 year warranty)
When I bought my Stealth, the deal was that an engineer would come to me for an all in price of £256. I think they wanted to sub contract the work to mobile engineers !.
The 1st I knew that there was a problem when I phoned to book the 1st service. I was told that the cost would be £1000 !. Service cost plus £1 mile return !.
Luckily the legal situation on warranties had changed and I get all my work done by a local family firm - Turriff Caravans - who are 1st class !.
If not for that I would have had to take a week of my work to take the van to Lincolnshire to get it serviced !.
We bougt our 2nd hand van from Robonsons, Chesterfield, after very poor service from Glossop Caravans.
Had it about 4 years now and have the main service done there at Brimmington, although we also have small jobs, like a re-seal done by a very good mobile blokey Steve .
Robinsons will phone if additional work required is over say £8 so they wont have to get in touch with you to replace a bulb say.
Always found them reasonable, transpaerent and helpful. For instance they found damp in a corner on the service but suggested we see how it went and book it in again later ( this was the job we got the mobile bloke to do -just a front rail re-seal)
My onlyy niggle is booking the van in for a particular day, having emptied it at the storage , they seem to need it for a week and can change the day that it will be ready . I make it very clear now that I will be collecting it on a set date /time and that seems to work,. All in all we do get the reassurance of an annuaal service and they are not outreageously pricey .Also very local to us in Sheffield.
We have used Ropers for 15 years. They are not perfect but lots better than CC. They do my abbey even though they are no longer the main dealer - I even asked Swift for permission for them to do the warranty - after CC renaged on a written price on a new van which resulted in my going to Huddersfield to buy a new van

I've had our 2009 Bailey serviced every year since we got it three times at Ropers and more recently at Teeeside caravans.
Both dealers insisted on replacing the BPW bolts every time saying it was a requiremenet so I'm on my 4th new set in 4 years.

I think you'll find those are alko nuts and they can only be used once.

Like you leebo, we are sad to say we have been disappointed by Catterick Caravans (Ebor Leisure, near York) on our recent service. We purchased our Lunar Clubman SE new from Catterick in 2011 having had poor service previously from Discover, York and, apart from one or two problems, everything went well. Catterick opened Ebor Leisure near York in 2012, very near us, so we had the Lunar's first service done there for about £100. Very pleased! This year we booked the second service and found the price was £150 - not so pleased. We booked the service a month in advance, took the van in on the appointed morning and agreed to collect it next day. The receptionist asked for my mobile number (they already had my home phone) in case of any delay. I duly returned the following lunchtime only to be told they hadn't even started the job! I had arranged my day completely around collecting the van, loading up equipment, taking it to a weigh bridge and then back to storage, all in preparation for going away in it a few days later. I was furious! I received a half-hearted apology and was told they would do the service by the next day. In fact I collected it after the weekend and found the floor inside covered with dirt, the water pump badly adjusted (found when I went away and tried using the pump) and a few other minor annoyances. After taking up the delay with Catterick's service manager, they did give me a decent discount, but the lack of communication was completely unforgiveable, bearing in mind THEY had asked for my contact details in case of delay! Come on Chris Kinsell, must do better than this!!!
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
