Hi,

New to caravanning and considering a '95 ABI Marauder 5.0CT that I've seen locally. Anyone have any experience with these? Good van / bad van? The one I've looked at has been very well looked after, that much is obvious as it is pretty much immaculate, but at £2400 I think it's a little on the pricey side. That having been said it comes with a 12 month damp / mechanical warranty and I quite like having that peace of mind.

Second question: Will it take an Al-ko stabiliser? I've read comments that indicate that a stabiliser is unecessary providing the van is loaded correctly but with my family along for the ride I'm taking the belt and braces approach. The tow car is relatively lightweight as well - a new focus estate.

Any advice gratefully received.

Paul

make sure the outfit matches at www.whattowcar.com before you buy.

Can't say I know anything about this van in particular, but my Sis has an older van and it was possible to fit a stabiliser, and that was with a molded cover over the tow hitch, handbrake etc.

It might be worth it if imaculate & guaranteed no damp although unfortunately dealer warranties on 'vans that age are not always as good as they seem. Try knocking them down to £2k but this time of yr is expensive time to buy. Probably go for about £1500 or less on ebay. Yes you can fit an Al-Ko stabilizer. AKS 1300, 15min job to fit.Simple diy if you can use tools.

Simple basic starter vans, no frills, but very lightweight, even the fridge came as an extra when new, we once owned its cousin the Monza, never any problems with it, not much to go wrong really, except never trust what a dealer tells you when it comes to damp, and spongy delaminated floors, always take along a decent damp meter and test them out for yourself.

I agree that hes asking a bit of a high price for this caravan though, it wouldnt have cost much more new, but hes obviously got to facor in the work and overhead costs he has as a dealer, but personally I would be offering him more like £1500 to start with.

We used one of the Bulldog Leaf type stabilizers with ours, and found it worked very well.
