We have a touring caravan but it does not have an oven in it and after looking into it it is going to be too expensive to have one put in as the caravan is 18 years old. We have been recommended on here previously to get a halogen oven as they do everything. I have found one on amazon that I like but wanted to know before I purchase one if anyone has one in their caravan and if they are practical for caravanning I.E I am a vegetarian but my husband and son are not so will that work. Also what do you cook in them when u are away in caravan. Any advice would be much appreciated.

I have one and I also have a remoska. I use the remoska four times as much as the halogen oven to be honest.

If you are getting one then I'd recommend the larger size as the heat circulates better. We use ours for anything and everything but it cooks bacon perfectly. Very easy to clean as well

We have purchased a Remoska recently and it is fantastic as the above post says it cooks almost anything and as it is low wattage ideal for the caravan. They are only available through www.lakeland.co.uk My wife has not used our oven for weeks. I don't think you will regret it.

I had never heard of Remoska either but they are a bit out of our price range at the moment so any advice on Halogens would be great have seen a great one on amazon for £36 with 5 star reviews.

As above

'If you are getting one then I'd recommend the larger size as the heat circulates better. We use ours for anything and everything but it cooks bacon perfectly. Very easy to clean as well'

ie get the 12 litre not the 7litre as we find that trays on the bottom don't heat up. Our friends have one from Costco which cost less than £30 and is fantastic.

Things I like are the cleaning cycle, the fact that you can grill and bake easily and the variable temperature. Things I don't like are the noise and light and the awkwardness of taking things out.

It depends what sort of cooking you like to do as to whether it will suit you. It does oven chips well, pizza not so well, baked potatoes are ok. I've not had much success with roasts due to the heat circulation issue but that may not be a problem in larger ones.

They are ok. I wouldn't buy one again.

We have one and we think its one of th e best things we have bought we have cooked steak, pork chops, chickens, joints of ham, toast, baked potatoes, and warming pies.get the extension ring though then you can cook joints etc. We bought a Andrew James model which included ext. ring from Amazon less than £40 if I remember.just treat it like a normal oven & you can't go wrong.

Hi Jenny,
May I recommend you getting a "Cookshop Large Halogen Oven" these can be purchased from Ideal world TV shopping channel. They are fabulouse, plug them into socket and cook anything you like from roast chicken to beef lamb etc, roast potatos anything you can cook in a normal oven you can cook in these. We use ours all the time at home and in the caravan, you will be surprised how economicle they are as well.
Good luck
Rene

Have you thought of an electric frying pan?

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Elgento-30cm-Electric-Frying-Pan/dp/B00BNB989Y/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&qid=1371308873&sr=8-10&keywords=electric+frying+pan

We have had the same one for over 30 years. I've used it in the tent and caravan. It can be a frying pan, casserole, and by using a small rack (I use the one from the caravan grill pan) you can roast in it. You can also do chips, pizza and I even baked a cake! It has a variable thermostat similar to an oven and very easy to use.

Sorry for rehashing an old thread(..but I thought it favourable to starting up yet another on the same topic..).

We're toying with getting one of these halogen ovens(for at home, not the van) and I just wondered if there is any merit in paying a little more, to get a "named" brand?..or are we of the opinion that the pretty much all come out of the same Chinese factories anyway....?

Although  I have come across this:

http://www.bmstores.co.uk/products/russell-hobbs-halogen-oven-283191   ?

(..although haven't checked our store to see if they actually have them in...)

I have the JML large one and use it more than my main oven, however I did have to return it to the store for a replacement as it "popped" and stopped working when I started cooking something (got a replacement there and then - I think it was the halogen bulb that blew)?

I bought the Cookshop one because it has a hinged lid - I got fed up with trying to find a convenient, heat-resistant, place to put a hot lid down

Another vote for hinged lid.
I have the large cookshop one. We use it all the time at home also.
One slight fault is I don't trust the timer on mine. Sometimes takes longer than it should.

Thanks for the feedback 24

..one query about the hinged lids...are they still "stable" when the lid's are open.?(...or are the lids not that heavy...24)
