Our van lives on the drive and on EHU from the house and has done since it was new.
Fridge is always nice and cold and only ever gets switched to battery for the journey too and from sites.
Van had its annual service in May and this is the only other time the Fridge ever gets switched off.
Just loading up to go to France and the Fridge is coldish but the Freezer compartment isn't. I didn't check it when I got it back from service as they hadn't said they found anything untoward.
I've turned it up to full power for the next couple of hours to see if that chills it down a bit (was on a low setting as this is how it usually is left).
Anyone know of anything I should look out for - light ocmes on & main body is cold but freezer compartment isn't??
They probably just check to see if the fridge is working under a normal service but don't check to see if it gets cold as the fridge comes under an independent service.
If you leave the fridge on permanently all year then 230v element may have failed. They do go eventually, usually after many yrs but most caravan fridges only get used for a few wks a yr.
Why not? The quiescent condition is the least stressful to electric and electrical components. Once they are warmed up from switch on (or in this case cooled down) then they're happy. Its the switching on and off that is stressful.
Light bulbs can last anything from seconds to years - you just hope yours lasts years!

I had one fail in a fridge that was 90% used on gas. So they do go swtiched on or off.
If I remember correctly a fridge element should have a resistance of about 500 Ohms. when I measured mine it was about 4 megaOhms equally it could have short circuited and beem 0 Ohms to it you can get to the wiring you can test it that way
The op should check to see if fridge functions ok on gas, if it does then suspect faulty 230v element as suggested, if the fridge is failing to work on all modes then suspect coolant leak, check underneath for brown gunge.
