I apologise if this has been discussed before but here goes...
I've just had a new motormomover fitted to my van (Rhyno), I'm fairly disappointed by its performance. It struggles to get the van up a levelling ramp, doesn't like gravel and certainly won't get it up a kerb. However I'm only running an 85ah battery. Would a 110ah battery improve the performance or just improve the battery life.
Reading back this sounds like a daft question even to me!! Any answers (in strictly laymans terms) would be most appreciated.
I have a powertouch and don't have any of these problems although I use 110 ah battery I would assume as this would only increase battery life as you state.
Thanks for the reply, yeah, that's what I was afraid of. To be honest my 85ah battery is quite old and does stand around in the 'van for months at a time without being used so I'll probably go for a 110 one anyway and see if anything improves.
Have you contacted Rhyno to see what they have to say? By 'struggle' do you mean that it won't grip the tyres or that the motors stall when going up a slope?
I am surprised that whoever fitted the motor mover did not recommend a 110amp battery? Try and find one with a deep cycle as apparently they last longer. I am led to believe that Numax is quite good as it has a 3 year warranty.
Not managed to contact Rhyno yet, currently working abroad (hence the long periods of non-use) but I will give them a try next time I'm home. There's no problem with slippage from the rollers, there just doesn't seem to be enough power to move the van. My storage is quite deep gravel so I have to use a fair bit of "shoulder power" when dropping it off and as I said it can't manage a generic levelling ramp, I've never actually tried a kerb but it's a safe bet that it'd be a non-starter.
To be fair Rhyno do recommend a 110 battery, so I've always planned on getting one, I was just wandering whether it would fix this particular problem or would it just extend the battery life itself.
A 110AH battery will not increase the power of your mover unless your present battery is sh***ed.
The AH rating is a measure of the capacity, not the power. A 110 AH battery will last aprox 30% longer on a charge
Thanks for that, more or less as I suspected. Current battery is about 6 years old but still seems to hold it's charge fairly well. Think I'll bite the bullet anyway and get a 110ah unit, it can't hurt after all!
I have used an 85 since 07 and never had any problems. The battery showed signs of deteriration at the last service and it was changed - to an 85 again. There is no more 'power' per se, only that the battery lasts longer ie 1 amp for 85 hours or 85 amps for one hour as a simple rule - albeit it is a very simple rule and the battery will run out of juice before it is fully discharged.
If the 85 battery ran well enough until its demise, then why change, but if you wish to wear belts and braces and a piece of string go for the biffer one.
NB the bigger the battery the heavier it will be NB nose weight - it will not necessarily last longer before you need to replace it.
We've only ever had Powertouch Movers. I called Powertouch to make certain which mover to specify and the man there told me an 85ah battery would be adequate plus he said the battery would be smaller and lighter.
The dealer told me the 110ah would be better so I went with that on our last new van. It was fitted by the dealer and when I took it off the van for winter charging I wished I'd stuck with the 85ah because the 110 just fitted into the battery box whereas the 85 fitted in there with ease.
I guess it depends on your usage of the van, we always had EHU pitches so our batteries didn't have to run the van at all without support.
