Re seeking the best signals and definitely when "aiming" my high gain yagi directional wifi aerial, I have found installing the program "inSSIDer" to be useful.
its not a lot different than a TV aerial.. that has to be directional to be of much use..
a frequency of 2.4 gig means a small aerial does a good job.. the coil only needs to be a couple of inches wide just like the actual antenna (bit of wire) in a wifi rubber duck is only a couple of inches long..
that is what we are really talking about here.. a bit of wire about two inches long.. or a coil of wire two inches across and maybe six inches long..
it all gets very technical and very expensive when its enclosed in a fancy shaped piece of plastic to look space age and above all "expensive..
but like a lot of things.. its all too technical for the average person.. he he he..
it seems to be part of the modern age.. people not having a clue about how items they use on a regular basis work..
extending wifi range isnt something people have to do.. but just like hanging a TV aerial on a pole and pointing it in the right direction the same can be done for wifi and very cheaply.. the wifi aerial can be many times smaller than the TV aerial.. all it needs is a basic understanding of how things work.. if people cant be bothered to find this out there isnt much help for them.. he he
