I should,nt think so, I have mine switch on all the time then I know the battery is charging up.

No because if the electric on board charger has no power to it so there's no power (charge) being distributed to the leisure battery.

Thanks so far but won't the charger get it's electricity from the ehu so why does the Mains on the van need to be on sorry if I am being thick just trying to understand how it works------------- Live life to the full you are a long time dead

I think the switch you refer to is the main 12v switch, in which case the battery will charge re gardless of the position of this switch.
Most vans will charge the battery regardless, (changeover being controlled by the habitation relay) once on EHU, and the switch is necessary only to switch over/on the 12v supplies.
To double check (and only a simple test), measure the battery voltage before and after connection to EHU; a slight increase when connected would suggest a charging voltage present.

thanks Paul, our switch doesn't say 12v just says Mains and if off then nothing works, if on then as long as battery charged then all lights etc work , and if on ehu then kettle etc works, will try what you say------------- Live life to the full you are a long time dead
