What would you reckon you average weight of kitchen eqipment is, ie kettle, toaster, cutlery, plates, serving bowls etc? Does it add much to the weight?
It is amazing how much the weight of things soon add up!
I found this guide quite useful when I started caravanning. The only way to be 100% sure is to weigh everything you plan to take - I weighed anything I planned to take using digital scales then made my own list.
Thanks thats really helpful, think i may be out there tomorrow with my scales and pen and paper weighing and listing everything!!!
its all the water bottles, and equipment you forget about, dread what the awning is going to weigh, we could be just taking one chang of clothes each as will have no spare weight for clothes
My Caravan aditional weights list.
My payload limit is 350 kg.
I work my payload out differently for each trip and keep it to 300kg in case I have missed anything.
Heavy stuff like awning if I take it goes in the car. If extra family come there is an extra car.
Extra permanent fittings added the unladen weight.

The best way to keep your weight down is to consider carefully whether you really need something you are planning to take, and only to pack in the van the things that you will use in the van.
On that basis, we put the awning, outside table/chairs, coolbox, hitch/wheel locks, tools, and Aquaroll in the car. The Wastemaster is allowed to travel in the front locker.
After each trip, remove anything you found you didn't use....be ruthless!
If you find your payload is too small, on many vans it is possible to upgrade the MTPLM by contacting a dealer.
Hi im new to all this so please bare with me! I dont have a car trailer licence cat on my license but i passed after the 1st jan 1997 and before 2013. I own a land rover discovery td5 and have seen a twin axel craftsman at a weight of 1000kg i can tow upto a combined weight of 3500 kg according to the dvla is my research right can i legal tow this? Thanks for your advice
I imagine the Disco weight you are referring to is its kerb weight, which is similar to my X5. This is not the weight used for driving licence purpose.
Instead it is the Maximum Authorised Mass (MAM). That is the kerb weight plus passengers, luggage, roof racks and so on up to the MAM specified in the cars handbook (where it might be referred to as Gross vehicle weight or Permissible maximum weight etc). It is the MAM that counts, even if the car is loaded to less than this figure.
Therefore your proposed combination is likely to be illegal with your current licence, since the Discovery MAM is around 2700kg I believe.
