Our six berth caravan has the side dinette/bunk bed setup, we have never used the fold out upper bed as both kids sleep in the fixed bunks at the rear. I've been considering removing this bed as I reckon its excess weight that I don't need to haul around, so this weekend I removed the whole contraption and weighed it and it came in at 14kg, not a huge figure I admit but it might save that little bit of extra fuel, worth doing if you don't use it and it only takes about fifteen minutes to do the job.
Our last two vans have been four berth side dinettes and we did that with both of them. I bought some foam pieces and covered them with material as close to the upholstery as l could find to fill in the gaps left at the side as we used the bed as a single. Also stopped the seat cushions sliding about.
------------- Im no cactus expert, but I know a prick when I see one!
I have a five berth, double either end with fold down bunk at the back which we don't use, I was thinking of removing this as I thought it would make the back look more spacious.
Didn't think of the weight.

you will be surprised at how much them fold down bunks weigh, and in this caravanning game every kilo counts !!.

We've removed the rear bunk, does make a difference! I've not weighed it but its pretty heavy to manhandle.I put the screws back in the holes so I didn't lose them and the bunk is well wrapped and stored with ladder and cushions ready to go back in when we sell.
