Hi we are travelling to Brittany, France for the first time this year (only ventured as far as Devon before!) and hubby panicking that he will miss his TV. So to put a smile on his little face could you recommend what satellite dish to buy that we could use while on holiday.

I think you could manage to buy a perfectly satisfactory system for a lot less that £500. I would think £100/150 would cover it. Unless you already have Sky at home I would go for a FTA (free to air) receiver, and 80cms dish (to allow for future trips) a tripod. Have a look at Satellite Super Store or Satcure websites.
The Aldi HD kit for 69.99 worked fine for us in Vallon Pont D'Arc.
It comes with a dish about 0.6 metre - I replaced this with a 0.75m dish from Trac - it cost around 20 quid complete with mounting and I just used the Aldi LNB.
Worked a treat for the princely sum total of 80 quid or so.
The problem with the cheap free to air satellite receivers is that they don't have the Freesat EPG, and do not update automatically when there is a change of transponders. You can get a secondhand Sky box quite cheaply which will be more than adequate. Humax Freesat boxes are very sensitive and give excellent results in fringe areas when you might need a bigger dish.
The EPG on the Aldi HD one works fine. Its not all that often things change transponders and if they do a quick rescan will fix it.
I seem to remember that Sky boxes require a viewing card and access to a specific Astra satellite so it can keep its decoding algorithm up to date with Sky's latest settings.
I manage to watch Freesat quite ok without that added complication thanks.
