Hiya all....i maybe swapping my Trailer tent for a 1995 Elddis Jetstream but am extremely worried about towing it, i tow the tt no problem but obviously a caravan is so much bigger, the swap hasnt been agreed yet as i am waiting on more photos and she needs to have a proper look at my pics but we both seem happy at the moment, but i am very nervous about towing......
Any reassurance from your kind selves would be so much appreciated :-)

There is nothing to worry about, you just drive along and it follows you! Simples It maybe a bit wider than your car but only a couple of inches or so other than that nowt to worry about as long as you load it correctly it will be fine!
Hi all I really need help,,my boyfriend has got a f reg auto sleeper year 87,he's never had a van and hasn't got a clue about how to use the electric,,,,,fridge,,water,,and all other things,,,is there anyone near Pontefract that can please help,,,I kno it's a big ask but he's doing my head in lol..xx
hi I went from a folding camper to a caravan- scared sh**less for the first 5 mins then no probs. The funniest bit was leaving the caravan sales forecourt, towing mirrors on, everything fine, drove 1/2 a mile--bollard in middle of road 'Oh s**t, can I fit through there with this' I said to hubby (woman tower)--he laughed very loudly and said 'there is a bus in front of you and that has just gone through' --well never looked back. Just remember it is longer than your TT so remember on corners, and the only other thing is you cannot see over it so your rear view mirror becomes redundant. Enjoy-let us all know how it goes. maureen -(wife of Gary)
Hiya Jaynejuciejuggs, it would probably be better for you to start a new topic as people wont see this unless they are going to reply to my original post, just click on 'new topic' at the top right of this thread (at the top) and ask away xx

I was scared to tow at first. I did have a little go with our 1995 Elddis and was fine. I towed it once then we upgraded to a 23ft van. Absolutely crapped myself but then settled in to it, I just need more practice to get my confidence up. I had no experience of towing so I think you'll be absolutely fine after your previous towing experience
Thanks Shelleybobs, i think this van is 21ft long (Eeeek!), the seller is taking some more pics for me to look at but she hasnt agreed to swap with me yet, i must admit to being rather excited though about owning a van, just terrified about towing it xxx
No problem Jayne, hope you get some helpful answers xxx

I started towing a 23ft van last October having only towed a camping trailer. I was very apprehensive, but it really wasn't worth worrying about as its nowhere as bad you imagine. I went on a towing and manoeuvring course with the caravan club beforehand which was really useful and I'd recommend it as it gives you some confidence.
As far as getting through gaps is concerned, as long as your towing mirrors can get through you Caravan will. Just remember to take corners slightly wider and slowly .
It's always a concern when you start to tow something bigger, but you have towed before which is certainly a head start on a lot of people. As long as you have the right tow car, you maintain the caravan correctly, you load the caravan correctly and drive steadily you'll be ok.
My wife was nervous when we had our first caravan, so i got her driving short distances at first, now 18 months later we'll be heading to France in a weeks time.
We changed from FC to caravan last year, OH has had no problems towing etc, I was a bit worried so did the C&CC manoeuvring course, really enjoyed it and we off to France at the weekend
