funny story for you folks, we are new to caravanning , on the drive we had a brill pic with arieal on van, when we got to site we had no signal, now i cant go 3 days with no soaps so off we trotted to tv shop near site we were staying on, the man said yes we would need a pole cable and aerial, but his men were on a caravan site, oh its the one we are on, i said, so we trotted back , found the van and the nice man fixed us up with everything for £70.great. hubby fixed everything up, and got no signal message on tv.grrrrrr, off i trotted to find the nuce man and he came to the van to make sure we had connected it right, he got a little machine out his van and hey presto a lovely pic.was so pleased we gave him a tenner for saving the day...after he went i said to hubby just unconnect cable and put it through the window instead of the door that the man had done, after hubby had unconnected the cable,i noticed the tv was still on, and seemed to be working off the van aerial,....well i bet you know what im going to say dont you ?. yes we hadn't tuned the bloody tv in, so all in all £80 down the drain. lol
Firstly I have a similar one to that from toolstation and its great. I alsomuse an appmon my smatt phone called uk aerial aligner which shows which way to point the aerial. I rarely use it though as look at others on the site and point it in the smae direction. What people need to remember is that if it works at home it may not work on a site that is getting its signal from a different transmitter, even if you point the aerial in the right direction you will still need to dona retune on your TV, without this you will get the no signal message. My point proven last week when my sister called me from Cornwall on her maiden caravan voyage and said only thing that doesnt work is the tv, it says no signal, I said is your aerial up, yes she replied, I said have you retuned your tv, no, somI talked her through retune and hey presto, coronation street, she was very grateful.
I always used to look on the map which direction the transmitter is from the campsite, then align the aerial in that direction. Now I have the android app.
Don't look at other caravan aerials, they are often pointing anywhere but the transmitter. The other week I wandered around the site, Royal Umpire at Croston and was amazed at the different directions aerials were pointing, the only way they were getting a picture must be the strength of the signal, You can see Winter Hill mast from the site !!
