I just tick the HGV option when towing and i can usually beat the times a little bit or with a bit of heavy traffic it comes in with a fairly accurate time.

The only time i have ever been in a rush was coming back from cornwall having got stuck just about everywhere with tailbacks.

Then by the time we got part way up the M5 i realised we had 90 miles and 90 minutes to get the caravan into storage before they locked the outer gates.

I have found that using the online planners helpful, as many also take into consideration the traffic, using live data.

What I have done for our upcoming holiday is plan the route for a few weeks on a Monday morning to get a estimate with the traffic conditions. Never used to worry, but with young children sitting is traffic jams is best avoided.
