We were away earlier in the month and couldn't help but notice the couple next to us seemed to use the boot of their car for loads of stuff, they had a 2 berth van and only the 2 of them.
As the weather was nice we sat outside every morning, said hello to them, got a smile back, then the hubby filled water up, emptied waste water and loo etc, while the wife opened the boot and took out plates, pans, tins, a small holdall and toiletry bags.
The second night, after their bbq he even put the bbq in the boot with the small gas bottle
My OH got talking to him one day but couldn't pluck the courage up to ask if there was a reason for this, in fear he thought we were nosey gits, but honestly we were sitting out in the sun enjoying the glorious weather.
We leave everything out ie. bbq chairs sml drinks tables etc.
Does anyone else use the boot of their car like this.
I keep things in the rear of our estate car such as holdalls and bags plus I keep the wastemaster and aquaroll bags in the roofbox when it has been emptied and keep two folding chairs on the back seat during the night. There are several reason for this and one is because of minimal storage space in the caravan, if we don't have the awning erected so chairs may get wet if it rains plus having our caravan kept in storage we have to transport food, drinks, footwear and clothes in bags from home to the caravan before we set off so it's easier to access them from the car than loading all the clutter under the caravan seats and shower compartment. People such as yourselves have asked me the very same question before and surprisingly enough each and everyone are lucky enough to be able to keep their caravan outside their house so their clothing and food are packed away before departure leaving the boot of the car empty. I bet I'm right in saying that you also have your caravan parked outside your home.
I always put our folding chairs on back seat of car at night instead of leaving them outside. Dont like damp chairs first thing in morning. I do keep them in the van though when not away.
We don't live out of ours, but do find it useful for storing things like the tent bags and as a hot store for our towels, especially when the weather is too damp to dry them as thoroughly as we like them.
Our baby 2 berth is not bad for storage space but has very limited work surface, consequently the microwave is kept and used in situ in the back of the Xtrail. Get some funny looks as I sit on a chair at the rear of the car with the tailgate up waiting for it to ding. Luckily have an outside socket on the van so i'ts very convenient....Mick
You say you were not being nosey and just sitting outside in the sunshine, the fact that you appear dissapointed that your hubby didn't 'ask' why they did these things, and you've brought it to the forum says otherwise. I suggest turning your chair around next time!

------------- Life is our Holiday enjoy it before its time to go back!
Our caravan is in storage so when we took it away last week most of our stuff was in the boot of the car. We had taken all the bedding and stuff over earlier in the day but when we picked the caravan up to go we just hitched up and left everything in the car. I was in and out of the boot over the weekend getting stuff in and out so I can def see why they would do that but when I camp (tent or caravan) all the chairs, outside tables etc come out of wherever they are stored and stay there the whole time. It would never occur to me to put stuff like that away. They must have been very security conscious lol!
Can I just say I love being nosey when I am camping and seeing what everyone else does, get idea etc. No harm in looking as long as you don't make it obvious!
I see nothing wrong with what there doing, making what they got work best for them,.
We have a small 2 berth and it's got limited storage, not got a boot but use the van to store a lot of the kit in, the likes of holdalls coats etc, which leaves the caravan clutter free.
Also saves us transferring the kit from tug to caravan at the storage yard and back again when we go home.
