Just a quick question. Do you pack the caravan with your clothes before you leave or do you pack your suitcases for the back of the car and then unpack when you get there?

Cheers

Everything in the caravan that can be hung up or stuff that can go in the wardrobe. Espeically useful to hang things up that may crease.

I hang stuff up in the wardrobe and the rest is in baskets in the boot of the car which I just shove in the bottom of the wardrobe when we get there.

I would love to stick all the clothes in the van to save me having to do it on arrival` but our payload is so small that we would be over! So, given the choice, if the payload was higher, I would pop it in the van.

I pack all the hanging up stuff in the wardrobe and undies, t shirts, shorts etc, spread evenly around the 2 drawers and all overhead lockers but then we arrive, I re-jig them dependant upon what week our son and his family will be joining us so that they've always got some storage space for their clobber. Every year, I swear I'm reducing the amount of clothes we actually take and....every year I STILL seem to come back with the majority of our clothes still unworn

THIS year, because we were fortunate enuff to be in Cornwall for the heatwave, we'd hardly worn anything that I'd taken But I did end up having to wash shorts and tops because most of what I'd packed was for the more chilly type of wet weather we're used to on our hols And it was a good excuse to go out and buy some more summer stuff....sneaky me.... We lived in shorts and summer tops for all but our first 2 days there. BOY we were lucky and very grateful for it since the same 3 weeks last year gave us only THREE DRY days  About time we hit the good weather.

And next year.......I'm NOT taking as much....again......deja vous that is

I tend to pack clothes in a bag in the car and then transfer them to an overhead locker when I arrive on site (my little van doesn't have a wardrobe)

We have no alternative but to pack them in the car first as our caravan is in storage so we load the clothes in the wardrobe when we arrive on site.

The wardrobe in our caravan is right over the axle. It, along with the shelves next to it, get packed with all the clothes before we leave home. Never give it a second thought as we have a 250kg payload in the van.

Check your caravan handbook, and carefully check what is included in the basic weight of the caravan. For instance my van comes with a spare wheel and that is included in the basic weight of the van. Many vans have the spare wheel weight as part of your payload.

This is something really vital you should know, as an overloaded van could be dangerous, and VOSA are doing more roadside checks on overweight vehicles these days. You should also know exactly how much weight you are putting in the van. This could include spare wheel, gas cylinders, battery, awning, motor mover etc. as well as the basic equipment you need and clothes. 100kg payload might sound a lot, but just think when you go on a flight, just your basic clothes for a holiday will weigh in at 20+kg each.
