We have just got a porch awning for our van. The heavens have given it a very good test!!! We are leaking into the awning in a couple of places along the awning rail.I am sure it's the rail not the awning.
Drips are coming from behind the rail in two small places. I can see black sealant stuff and its not smooth. I assume its therefore not filled properly, what is it and where do I get it to remedy the problem, it feels soft and squidgy to the touch, is this correct??
In another place it's as if the water is coming around the bead on the awning. So where I thread the awning through the rail. There is a very slight kink as if we've not pulled the awning taught enough. I will try to tension next time we put it up but does anyone have a simple answer or tips to prevent this.
Thanks but its not damp or leaks into the van. I'm talking about leaks inside the awning coming from overhead, by the awning rail. I can physically see the drips running down
Not the same problem but in case others have suffered leaks along the awning rail we had a similar problem with a new Sunncamp Ultima 180+. Most of the stitched seams are factory taped but not the awning rail seam. Therefore the stitching along the awning rail needs to be seam sealed, this is usual for tents were the the fabric can't be taped sealed. When we looked at the instructions again it clearly stated that untaped seams had to be seam sealed...which we did and no more leaks. Problem was trying to find a tube of seam sealer in Galloway, got the last tube in Dumfires.
I'v had this, the water was getting in between the awning rail and the outside wall of the van. I don"t believe it was getting into the van as I'm reasonable certain we have no damp issues (that's tempting fate!) I know it's not a proper fix but over-sealed the rail and it's been fine ever since.
