We are a family of 5 and we all use our shower. One of the reasons we bought the caravan that we did was because of the large end bathroom. The site we visit regularly has no facilities and we have no problems with using our shower or our toilet. Our reasoning is.......... If its there, then we will use it, that's what it's there for. That goes for our own facilities or ones on site. Both have their advantages
We use our shower.
I just dry the cubicle walls and shower door with a microfibre cloth when finished and leave the roof vent open for a bit.
Now and then I will use the site showers but get fed up of being frozen to death or scalded. I know how long I have in ours and it's a doddle.
There is barely a caravan manufacturer today that makes any of their models without showers fitted in them. I don't think I would buy a caravan if it didn't have a shower fitted. There is no reason to suggest they cause damp and I use ours regularly, not always though as some site showers are extremely well equipped and very inviting. Before using the shower, I check there is sufficient water in the aquaroll and make sure the heating is on in the van when finished.
I would never use the shower in my 20 year old van,it would leak everywhere, I can see from the way it was made that it wouldn't last before it leaked.
I was told that the old vans wernt designed for showering but for a wash down, basically just water on, wet your self down, water off, wash, water on to rinse off and that's it.
The newer vans , well that's a different story, I've seen some good ones with built in one piece shower cubicles which look very good. I would use these when needed but not if there is a good shower block as there isn't much room in the van.
As for damp , as long as you ventalte OK you'll be fine it the leaks in the tray etc you need to look for.
We've just got back from our annual trip in Cornwall. Although the site facilities were great 3 of us used our shower on most days. The only days we used the sites facilities were after using the swimming pool or when we were full of sand. However I'm not sure how i'd feel if my caravan didn't have a separate shower cubicle, things would probably totally different
Since going over to caravans with end bathroom and uPVC cubicles, we always use our own shower and never the site facilities. Yes, maintaining good ventilation is the key.
Our last van (Coachman pastiche 460/2) was still unaffected after 6 years.
We did want one with the "snail" shower, but had been discontinued on the model we chose. Don't know why - the best design ever, in our opinion. Perhaps it was a cost issue.
Bertie.
I would love a end bathroom, seen one in highbridge and it was nicer than our bathroom at home, it had like a walk in and around the glass screen type shower, lots of space then to dry off and get dressed etc, you could swing a cat in there no problem.
We are a family of 4 and we have used our end bathroom shower since we had it earlier on this year.
I have also heard people say that you devalue your caravan if you actually use the shower? Surely this can't be true can it? We always use a cloth afterwards to dry it down and make sure there is decent ventilation. I suppose if we had an issue we would be covered under warranty anyway wouldn't we?
We are Caravan newbies so just getting used in to it
