I suspect what he may have been trying to suggest was that you might end up with a false alarm, as opposed to a real threat. Given you said he told you the appliance will give off a bit of the bad stuff.
I need to fit a smoke alarm and a poison alarm in ours. I know the local fireservice were doing free installs at one point, I wonder if they would do it on the caravan :)
We have a CO alarm fitted though we never expect it to go off. The only gas we use in the van is when cooking on the hob. Fridge is never on gas and the heater runs (when needed) off EHU. Yes, the hob might not properly burn the gas but the flame would be very noticeable.
after recently loosing a friend and her daughter on a boat to co2 i would ask the question "why wouldnt you have a co2 alarm in your van?"
£2, £20 £200 whats your life worth?
i have also managed to live 40 years in houses with gas fires and gas cookers etc with no problem or loss of life but we didnt know 40 years ago what we know now
