Hi all
wonder if anyone has any info they can help with on this subject.
Selling a caravan on behalf of a friend but they cant locate the cris registration document so we need to get hold of a duplicate copy.I have been on the official cris site but there is very little info on there and none that i can see ref replacement documents other than ringing cris.Just wondered if there was another route i could go down ie online service that i cant seem to find anywhere.

I dont think you need the documents. When you sell a CRIS registered caravan and dont forward the documents and the new owner wants to cris register it, cris contacts the original registered owner to check that you have indeed sold it and who to before they re-register it. If original owner doesnt reply to CRIS they take it that you have sold it (someone who has had their caravan stolen would let them know). We didnt get documents when we bought our caravan because the owner couldnt find them and managed to register it in our name.

Hi.

Feeblecast is 100% correct in saying that you do not need to have your document to sell your caravan. If you are selling to a dealer some will prefer it as will some private buyers.

If you sell without documents simply call CRiS on 0203 282 1000 and choose option 1 to give a 'seller notification'

Let the new owner know the number and they can call up to start the registration process, they will be charged a £12 registration fee.

Once one party lets CRiS know about the sale they will automatically send a letter out to the other party to confirm.

Edit: Forgot to mention, if you really want documents you can call CRiS and request duplicates for £10, it can take up to 21 days for them to arrive.

hi,i might add we have just had our van written off due to storm damage at beginning of year[hailstone]i am insured with the caravan club and i would like to say they were on the ball, asseser out within 2 day,s of me informing them of damage, however as i did not have cris doc when i bought van 7 years ago there will be a delay in them paying out as i have had to cris reg van £12 this week and then have to wait 31 day,s before i get doc so i can send to insurers ,so lesson to be learnt, make sure my next van is cris reg before i buy it.
