what is the black stuff that looks like a rubber type material that goes around the awning rail and attaches to the van- is this sealent or is the sealant underneath this?
the reason i ask is that on washing my van i noticed some water entering behind the black stuff on my awning rail.
The sealant is usually a grey colour that goes behind the awning rail and seals against the caravan wall. It sounds like the part that you are referring to is the strip that slides into the awning rail that's there just to hide the screw heads that fix the awning rail on.
On mine it's a trim inside the awning rail, also on the trims along the sides and the front.
Mine started leaking through the one over the front window, I bought a length of the very thing from seals direct.com and pulled the old stuff out and the new stuff in, bit of black marine sealant underneath and a dot at each end as well, and it's never leaked since (in that particular place,LOL).
