Hi all,
I am looking to buy a satnav with caravan routes.
But don't know which to get out of a snooper or tomtom.
Any advice or preferances would help please?????
------------- Enjoy life while you can, none of us know what's round the corner!
We had a snooper 7000. I didn't like it much as the menu sytem wasn't very intuitive and the touch screen needed a stylus as it was pretty rubbish compared to modern touch screens. They also demanded paying for upgrading.
Satnavs like these take into account road widths and tunnel heights etc. but even so cannot guarantee that the route won't be unsuitable. Our snooper tried to take us with our van up a road that arrived at a town wall arch at 90 degrees. The van would go through the arch but not at the angle on the route provided.
We now use an app on my phone and it seems just as good as dedicated satnavs.
Snooper every time for me,have had the s2000 truckmate for 5 year and it has never let me down once and i pull a Hobby 650 with a hi-lux so i am not a small unit,i am now due for a new sat nav and it will be snooper with out doubt.
This arch is on upper gate street near where I live. Our twin axle will pass through the arch ok if approached this way - i.e. head on. The snooper always tried to bring us up rosemary lane on the left where the right angled turn is impossible with any sizeable outfit - it is a tight turn in a car.
Snooper I'd great :) have just bought one and it has all Cc listed and c&c listed and show photos. Regarding the above post with pic you can email snooper so they can add it to there database :) , regarding upgrades you don't have to pay now as maps are lifetime upgrade, you do have to pay for speed cams yes.
------------- Loads of CC sites to many to mention.
I am not saying the snooper is inferior in navigating to other satnavs. I just think it is amazing technology but even with all road data and algorythms for caravanning there will always be the odd glitch with any satnav. Just needs a careful eye on the route.
We were in Narbonne someyears ago and the tour de france was going through the town which necessitated all sorts of diversions. No programming can ever pre-empt that sort of thing.
It is good that updates are now provided - they should be.
