Do these ariels work ok without the 'Spike'?

 We have to remove ours to put the caravan cover on, otherwise the cover gets ripped. It a bit of a pain taking the 'spike' off and remebering to put it back on again.

We have to put the cover on as our storgae place has lots of trees and when you go to take the van out it covered in bird droppings if you've forgotten to cover it like we did Yuk!

The spike is actually called the 'pinnacle' which is part of the aerial which the following quotation is from the Vision-plus pda file:   The pinnacle is essential for the optimum performance of the antenna and therefore should should be in place when the antenna is in use.
