I keep looking at booking tickets for the NEC next month but wonder whether it really does offer deals that are better than elsewhere. Will I get the same deals if I go to the January show in Manchester? Could I get the same deal if I went and mithered the living daylights out of my local dealership? Is it really better just because it's bigger - or is it at the perfect time for preordering caravans?
Can anyone give me a rough idea of the savings that it's possible to negotiate?
It costs thousands of pounds to hire a stand at the NEC and the bigger the stand the more expensive it costs so each and every company have a target to hit to try and cover the majority of the costs. So basically the more they sell the more they make in profit plus funds towards the expense of it all. However, this all depends if their target has been met or not and if it hasn't then the chances are that you will get a good discount off the price of a brand new caravan, and to make a firm sale they will also offer to other related objects such as a free awning or maybe a water barrel and waste container etc. whichever the customer chooses, so it's not about whether you will get a better discount elsewhere it's the same principal business tactics at any major show. I used to work for a company that sold industrial tooling back in the late 90's that hired a 20 feet square stand at the NEC one year but the total cost of over £25,000 didn't pay off so they didn't hire one out the following year. But the fact here is you can't offer discounts for industrial tooling like you can to the public who want to purchase an investment for future years so it's impossible to compare the two really. But. if you are serious and genuinely want a good deal then go and see for yourself because I know from other caravanners that a saving of up to 5 grand can be achieved in certain circumstances which I suppose is the.....bigger the deposit the more the salesman rubs his hands with joy.
I think i got around 12% off my van when i bought from the lawns show, that was ordered in september and to take delivery in march the following year (my choice) i doubt i would of got anything near that on a new model van at the dealers. Dealers can often hide their figures with part exchanges, so i went with no part ex as a straight cash buyer and played a few dealers off each other.
