Some vans have an external waterproof socket that can be used when the awning is up :-)

I fitted an external socket to both my vans. At first I fitted one under the van so as not to have to cut a hole in the side but it was a pain reaching under the van to connect up the lead.
Current van I cut a hole in the side so a nice flush mounted socket could be fitted. Really worth doing as we have our microwave, toaster, radio etc plus extra lighting plugged into it.
The socket cost about £15 and I'd have expected professional fitting to come in around £75-£100 so not bank busting really and certainly better than running a lead out of the window.

As pointed out you can fit an external socket but as for using an extention lead from inside, it should be no problem if you don't have small kids running riot.------------- Regards, Jack+Jon.

Use an extension designed for outdoor use. Waterproof sockets or a camping RCD unit.
You dont want water dripping onto a normal extension lead.

Waterproof outdoor extensions normally use for camping are only waterproof till something is plugged in and if the extension is plugged into the caravan then it's RCD and MCB protected.

Agreed, pointless adding any more RCDs/mcbs in the line of the same value.
I just use a FUSED 13A 4Way plugged into a 16A socket on the underside of the caravan.
keep it off the floor, and it will be fine.

Just a word of warning,if using a coiled extention lead make sure you fully uncoil it as a friend of mine used one and it melted,------------- Animals have feelings..

Why would you use a waterproof outdoor rated extension lead unless the slow cooker has a similar IP rating?
Again no need for an RCD if the caravan has one already.
My awning stays dry no mater how hard the rain. Just ensure it's up off the floor on a table.

Hi
I bought something called a splitter. It's like an adapter which you plug in to the hook up point, and it has 2 or 3 'sockets' for you to plug your hook-up lead into. We use the normal hook-up for the caravan, and a camping hook-up with sockets for in the awning.
http://www.a2zcamping.co.uk/caravan-accessories/3-way-mains-camping-splitter.html
Hope this helps

If you use a splitter as posted then you would need to use an RCD/MCB protected camping type hookup.
