We have recently changed from tent to caravan and our friends would like to do the same but would like to try before they buy. Does anyone know of anywhere they do caravan hire between Hertfordshire and Devon?

Check out your local caravan dealers. Quite a few do hire out caravans. Swindon Caravan Centre do hire.
