My brother recently traded in his 2009 senator for a pegasus gt65.only to be told his senator has damp.no prob will be sorted under warranty.now the pegasus has soft bubbling on the ceiling boards at the front.do they just throw them together and hope for the best.we were thinking of a unicorn next year.but it seems the more you talk to bailey owners the more you hear of damp problems.

I agree we went to view a new Bailey van earlier in the year as the salesman opened the van you could clearly see a large stain on the wallboard the salesman quickly showed us to another van and this was a brand new van that put me off completely.Ian

This has always baffled me and I don't seem to be able to get an answer.
When they say 'no need to worry about damp anymore it's Alutec'..... what does this mean because if damp gets in it's still going to get all the insulation wet and in turn will affect wall boards e.t.c

Are they still damp checked? and what is the point of Alutec?

i have bought several vans from new. In my opinion warranty is a mythical object whether it is 1, 2,3year it makes no difference. I had a cast iron case but still had to use Trading Standards on one of what he said was one of his regular visits to the Bailey dealer.

The point of alutech (and the reason I bought an alutech van) is that there is no wood in the roof or walls to rot.

Some people have reported water stains on floors - I'm keeping an eye on mine, nothing yet - but if it does, it's under warranty.

Meanwhile, all the worry about rotten wall boards, poking your finger through soft areas, etc, etc, etc, has vanished.

I owned a Hymer, and am a big fan of their 'Pual' construction - but, imo, alutech is even better than that.

They are still damp checked - using an ultrasonic meter.   Ours was done a few weeks ago - and bone dry, so alutech seems to be working properly ;)

As the entire interior 'wallboard' is fibreglass, how is it 'bubbling'?

ours bubbled on the ceiling wasnt damp related though,it happened after a new roof / front section was fitted ( by bailey ) following accident damage.
we also had the fibreglass split in the washroom a month from new , again replaced by bailey.
as for damp , the floor under the plastic trays in the side lockers at front was rotten and had to be repaired by bailey . leaking through the grab handles and from the floor to front panel sealing rail ( lack of mastic )
had nothing but bother with our pegasus s1 from new , got rid in june and bought a 10 year old coachman , light years ahead in every respect in spite of its age

Dunno not seen it. all i know is he is having to bring back off site to be checked and to have some internal cracks sorted.

Ouch! - I must admit, your post sent me out to the drive to check our own van

Can't see any cracks or splits - but now that you've told me, I'll forever be on the lookout!....

It seems that bailey have the worst record for damp issues, I haven't got one but from people's views on here it would appear there after sales isn't up to much either

A statement of such mind-numbing idiocy that it's difficult to know how to properly respond to it!

I haven't got one, but, I've heard that Lamborghini have the worst record for snapped camshafts - and their after-sales isn't up to much, either..

We have had 4 Baileys none have been damp. Our current Alu-tech (Pegasus 534) will be 4 years old next March and is fine.
A couple of minor issues have been corrected by our supplier (Salop Caravans Cosford) who are excellent.
Bailey have sold a lot of Alu-tech I suspect satisfied owners have not bothered to post on forums.
I do have sympathy for any owner with damp.
The industry needs to deliver consistent quality products.

It seems to be norm now on many forums if someone is posting that the van they have is good the post gets hijacked by the moaners
