After getting back at the weekend from a few days away in the van , our caravan alarm has gone off four times on our drive over a period of four days.
This has never happened before, I have been out moving curtains and blinds around to see if a fly is activating the movement sensor but cannot find anything. There is no wind or movement on the van and I am now wondering if a spider is walking around the sensor, ceiling or wall that could be setting off the alarm.
Has anyone else had this happen?
I am waiting for it to go off again so to fly out to the van and try to catch the culprit!

believe a low main battery can give a problem on alarms.------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.

I would put some tape or at least tape some card over the sensor window temporarily to rule out movement detection issues.
Is this a fully wired alarm system with hitch detection, corner steady switches etc? It is possible a remote switch has developed a fault and false triggering the system.------------- Paul

Hi Dave is there a pattern to it going off,is it during the day or the night and at what times.
if there is a pattern to it it could help narrow down the fault, or "other"------------- alpiner

Spider in the sensor is a common issue.
is there a pattern, evening/night times?? only ask as in landrover circles there has been instances where, late evening/early night alarms have been "randomly" going off, owner, in an attempt not to annoy neighbours then ends up leaving it off, it then gets nicked.
I have no idea if caravans have a vibration/tilt sensor in them, so cant say if this is likly or not, but somthing to be aware of.

Hi Michael / Lunarvrnus
The van is about two and a half years old, could the failure of the back up battery cause the alarm to keep going off?
It went of last night about 11.00 am and then not until this morning 3 times in a hour, does not seem to be a pattern ?

Hi Michael
yes the van is level all legs down, it is in the same position as always on the drive. I put the mains on last night to keep the battery full and after turning the mains off this morning it went off three times in an hour?

Try hoovering any dust out of it, it's a common problem, my mate's Bailey was doing it all the time, he was told to clean it and was no trouble after that.

hi dave ,it may well be thats its being triggered electronically ,when i was a taxi driver we noticed that if you dropped off customers in a car park that contained land rover freelanders ,as soon as we radioed in that we were empty it would set off all there alarms .and also if driving down a road at night and having to talk to the desk girl on the radio ,every freelander alarm in that turning went off .
so you may well have a local taxi/minicab firm operating on a similar frequency

more likely a small money spider actually inside the movement sensor,
I get this regularly with domestic alarms.
take the front off the movement sensor and look for any telltale signs of spiders,ie skins or black specks,
stick a hoover nossle to it and clear it out.
then block any holes up with blue tack
