Hi All,
I have just joined this forum as finding it full of helpful advice.
I am just embarking on caravanning and have bought a 2002 Swift Capri. Knowing not a lot about vans, I am having it fully serviced before I use it and will write down an idiot's guide of 'how to do' various things! Being a lady of advancing years and also going solo, can anyone recommend an awning that I can put up on my own. I considered a Kampa air 260 and have now found out that it should only see 20 weeks use? Also considered Fiamma zip, but told it would be useless in the rain or wind as only supposed to be a sun canopy?
I have dogs so going without an awning is not an option. I used to caravan a few years ago, but with a partner, so did not take much notice of the technical stuff!!
My car is a peugeot partner escapade 1.6 diesel so will probably be pants at towing, but really don't want to change it, so fingers crossed. I would be a tad overweight if I loaded to the limit so will make sure I am careful with that.
The kerbweight of the towing car needs to be at least 0kgs to achive an 85% match, to achive a 95% match the tow car would need to be at least 0 kgs. A tow car weighing less than TBA kgs is very likely to be illegal and likely to result in a prosecution if you were stopped by the Police as well as invalidating any insurance for your car and caravan.
Swift Quintet Capri 2002 dimensions
The internal length of the caravan is 4.61 metres or 15.1208 feet
The external shipping length is 6.09 meters or 19.9752 feet
The width is 2.14 meters or 7.0192 feet
The weight is 960kg unladen, 1197kg laden, length is 20ft and the width is 7ft 1in
hope this helps

------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.
Thanks michael. Blinded me with science on that one. Haha.
Kerbweight of car is not much. 1315. Caravan is 960 unladen. 1167 laden, but I would not pack it up to the full weight.
I don't know what % that is as not good at the maths thing.
I did ring the police first though.
hi I have 260 porch awning from outdoor trail brand new from them for £129.00 there are three poles and 2 metal ones for roof support it is doddle to put my wife can put better than me
It's sold out, though, it was one heck of a price.
------------- XVI yes?
As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
Yes. I saw that. It looked just great. I didn't realise untilafter I bought the van though that the awning rail at the top dips down about two thirds of the way to the front, so it would not fit or I woulld have bought the new model.
I have a lightweight 260 awning that I can put up and take down on my own. Lots of various makes available at different prices would something like that be suitable

Yes Barbie Girl. That would suit. Outdoor trail one looks good too. What make is yours? Just need something big enough for two medium size dog baskets and maybe a little table and a chair. Knew it would be worthwhile to join this forum. Thanks folks.
michael, I think I've worked out my % to 88% if I loaded van to 1167kg?
