I assume dealer didn't attempt to fix fridge? Remove bottom fridge vent from exterior of caravan. Burner is at bottom right of fridge as you view it. clean burner out with small brush & plenty of meths, if you have access to air line blast it out as well. Then try lighting it & report back.
To light fridge, ensure gas is on, press & hold large knob then press igniter button a couple of times. You will see a clear plastic bit at bottom left corner of fridge to show pilot light lit. Keep large knob pressed in for about 20secs after pilot light is lit. I'm assuming this type of fridge as you have 1998 caravan.
HI GUYS THANKS, NO HE DIDNT, JUST SAID THAT IT WOULD NOT WORK SO I SAID IF I GET A SERVICE DONE ON THE VAN WOULD THEY LOOK INTO IT THEN HE SAID YES AS IT IS A SERVICE AND THEY DO A FULL CHECK ON EVERYTHING, OH AND THE NEXT REPLY WAS YOU DONT REALY NEED TO WORK ON GAS MOST PEOPLE USE ELECTRIC ANYWAY' EER THATS NOT THE POINT IF ITS ON THE FRIDGE IT SHOULD WORK ".DONT YOU THINK.

I have the same problem with mine, not working on gas but it did when I first had the caravan. I was told the same as advised by Jack+Jon but it's not as simple as that. When I took the vent off mine there is an insulating cover going from top to bottom held on by metal clips plus a metal cover over the burner and there's not much room to work. I couldn't get a screw driver in to under the screws holding the burner cover on, I didn't fancy disconnecting the gas and taking the fridge out from the front so mine is still not sorted.
Might just need a blast with a hairdryer. Underneath, and through the outside vents down the sides. It warms the cockles and gets rid of spider webs. I hoover underneath mine, and take off the outside cover and get the long nozzle as far down as I can get from the outside.
Then remember, with gas, you have to press and hold in the gas knob once it is lit, and keep it pressed in for at least 30 seconds. The thermo-coupler needs to warm up if it hasn't been used for a while. Mine sometimes will take up to five attempts to light. Oh and make sure the gas is turned on, both at the caravan gas bottle and also to the fridge. There's usually a separate tap inside somewhere which needs turning on and can sometimes get overlooked.
I had mine installed by a caravan engineer, and he said the same thing. It wasn't working on gas. As above, 15 minutes later, it was going on gas. You just have to be patient.
I had fridge that stopped working on gas. Some fridges need the knob you push in to get the gas to work removing (just give the knob a good tug) and a bit of card (or whatever) packing putting inside the tube that the metal spindle goes in. Aparently sometimes the knob cannot push the gas valve in far enough to allow the gas to flow freely as it fouls on the plastic surround on the fridge. Doing this allows the knob to clear the surround and allows the valve to open better. I did this modification and blew the gas nozzle area out with an airline. Afterwards the fridge lit on gas much quicker and easier and I never had another problem with it.
------------- Why am i doing this instead of camping??!!
I've done all the usual, hoovering and blowing it. Cant see a spark in the little window so certainly needs more investigation. Will look at the control knob though see if that's the problem as when I'm trying to light it there is no smell of gas which I thought there would be. And yes both gas taps where turned on. Anyway the van is all wrapped up in it's cover for the winter so wont get to look at it again til spring.
Can you still get parts? Mine is an Electrolux RM212. I've asked 3 caravan service people to quote for a service on it, two said they'd do it if they could get parts and would make enquiries and get back to me but didn't and one just didn't reply to my e-mail at all. Obviously don't want the work.
