I know I may be asking for the moon, but does anyone know of any 5-6 berth vans that have longish beds for kids/ teenagers

Currently got one 15 yr old over 6 ft with 2 more to catch up ( both over 5 ft t 10 and 12)

Prepared to shove them in the awnings or weekends and longer but want to get in to Spain this summer with minimal stop overs

Adria DT ( there's a 6 and a 7 berth in the brand new 2014 models, just 6 berth in older ones.) older 6 berth and new 7 berth has triple fixed bunks but I think 6ft teenagers may not have enough head room. I would be quite comfy sleeping in them but I'm only 5ft. They are 2ft 6 wide by 6ft 2 long so way bigger than any other bunk on the market. They have an excellent sized end bathroom which we love.

The sister van to it is the DK, only 2 fixed bunks but way more headroom plus the side dinette makes up to a large wide bunk too. You can close the whole end off and use them as fixed bunks if you don't mind losing the dinette. The front seating area has a free standing table included so you don't completely lose your dining.

Hope that helps

Well worth a look at both vans on the venture caravans website. Happy hunting, let us all know how you get on

For bunks with strapping footers you will need to watch weight limits as well.

As Shelleybobs says the Adria Altea 542DT has wide bunks and top 2 would be long enough, although bottom one is slightly shorter. The side dinette also converts to s decent length and width bed very easily for quick stopovers

The DK may work better in some ways as you will have two beds with no weight restriction tucked away in the back (the bottom bunk and convertible dinette) so just one 10 year old maybe on top bunk. Also far more headroom as Shelley says above.
The "compromise" is slightly less usable space in bathroom and also floor space/openness may or may not suit you as well as the DT (you'll see what I mean if you look at both side by side inside)

Either way both great vans and good value for money for quality of build

Check out Bailey Pegasus bunks, just bought a 646 for the same reason 3 bunks are 6ft 2 by 2ft 1 x or the pegasus 2 ancona 6ft 3 by 2 ft 1 but watch your model years x you are most likely gonna have to go twin axle. both are a stack of 3 so no beds to make up for them x

The upper bunk limit is 70kg which is about 11 stone if that helps.

Why - was the only reason to get down to Spain with minimal hassle then? What is wrong with suggestions above so maybe we can help further?

We have the same issue and have done a lot of research over the last two years.

Adria are definitely your best bet. The Bailey offering won't last you long as the weight limit is low. The only other uk van with a suitable bed length was the twin axle lunar if I remember right.

I found suitable bunks in older burstner and tec vans as well but many have gone over to fixed bed models with a separate double to make up. Not really suitable for teenagers.

We've gone for a big two berth as it gives us plenty of lounge space. The kids sleep in the awning for the most part but there's room on the floor for mats for stopovers. Not ideal but sadly there aren't many options and the uk manufacturers aren't really offering the choices we need. Kids are growing bigger

Not just weight Jay (as I think Adria offer 70kg much same as some other UK manufacturers now a days) its the width of the bunks.

Some are barely 2 foot wide which may be fine for toddlers but feels like a coffin for anyone older

We looked at some vans with the cross rear bunks ie the Avondale Dart 556 and Lunar Zenith 6 when we were looking round and these had relatively long bunks as they went across the width of the van but they were so narrow

Also liked some of the Burstner and TEC layouts and i think if we hadn;t have upped our budget slightly and also found a bargain Adria in our local area (just luck) then we would have gone with one of them

I didn't know adria had dropped the weight limit to 70kg as well. That's a bit sad as the older ones were 90 I think. My 15yo is over 6ft and a 90kg limit would be ok but only just. He wouldn't get his shoulders on a 2ft width though. He's by no means unusual in his school either.

It really is a shortfall in the market.

The other option we considered was fixed singles but they tended to be too short and the lounge area was far too small.

Fixed single are an option on some newer vans. Some of the new Adria's are 8m + on a single axles and have long enough front lounge seats to have as a single bed.

The Adora Seine looks a great family van for growing kids as has two fixed singles and bathroom at rear and long front single lounge seats so you could set up as 4 singles all good size and width

UK market I agree lags behind in anything a bit "different" with more focus on accessories and fancy looking windows than practical well built and practical layouts for all IMO

The adora seine is the closest I think we'd get to perfect although I'd be relegated to the 1.75m settee. The other is 2m and the singles are perfect. It won't help the starter of the thread though as it's only a 4 berth but it does look as if there's more than enough room to fit an extra body in for a stopover
