About to embark on our first year as seasonal caravanners. I have sorted the awning, but wondering what you use on the ground? We have Isabella Bolon awning carpet but obviously it will take a bit more wear and tear and will also be laid onto flagstone /concrete. Is there a better option for both comfort and durability?
Hi We also starting out on our first year of Seasonal Caravanners. Ours is a Hardstanding Pitch and we are going to use a carpet but hard wearing one.
I am sorry Fiona for using your Topic but i would also like to know .
Regards
We are just starting our 4th year on a seasonal pitch. Last season we decided to put down a raised floor as we had a few floods in the awning the year before. We put down a frame of timber batons and screwed loft boarding to it, then put carpet on top. Obviously, this is only worthwhile if you leave your awning up all season! At the end of the season, we dismantled the floor and it is now stored, wrapped in tarpaulins, under the van.

Most loft flooring is chipboard and will not withstand being damp, be careful as it might deteriorate and become unsafe under an awning, you might find you fall through it. Something like plywood is far stronger and will take more damp safely. Decking boards are another suggestion but avoid chipboard.
------------- We camped for years. In 2019 we bought an Elddis Avante 454. We like it as it is short (6.9m) and fits in our driveway and has a fixed bed.
We had 127 nights away in the caravan in 2023.
If you are on gravel, make sure its dead level, Put some fine chippings over the gravel,I have put 3 layers of vis queen on the gravel then the normal ground sheet,Then i put the carpet on top,When you put the vis queen down make sure you go a few inches up the awning sides so no water can get under,The carpet.....I run it up the awning skirt as well, I use a hot glue gun to stick the carpet to the awning skirt, just level were the skirt runner is. The carpet is prity thick and it stays in place, You be suprised how much heat stays in the awning by running the carpet up the front of the skirt.
------------- Roughing it in style at Calloose caravan and camping holiday park nr St Ives.(seasonal pitch)
Its not a hangover, its wine flu!
Thanks all I wasn't actually thinking of anything too permanent as outside of April-sept awning only up when pitch occupied. It's just with a solid concrete floor I was wondering if I should maybe underline the current awning carpet or maybe even customise a tent carpet ?
I would wait until you are actually using the pitch then trying out different ideas then. We just use a basic awning carpet (breathable type) on ours. You might find something that's too much effort to set up every time you arrive and not bother using it.
Thanks all, I've found two very large tent carpets in half price sale which are 4m long and just a few cms wider than awning. I plan to join them with carpet tape and lay them over our kampa tent carpet we already have. I'm also thinking of getting a piece of coir matting cut to width of awning and about half a metre+ long so plenty of space for kids to kick off shoes and spare the carpet so much wear and tear.
We have lived in Caravan with large awning for 3 years. You need to put Kampa style tiles ( the ones with holes in) under whatever flooring you choose. They will allow the air to circulate and any water to run underneath. They work brilliantly!!
Ooh thanks Anne, I was considering that - I have a couple of packs of kampa tiles, wonder if there are any offers on them anywhere at the mo
to get some more
Yes but our awning will be on solid concrete paving. We have young children who play in the awning so as seasonal I'm looking for a little extra comfort under foot.
