I'm looking at adverts and lots don't have the miro included , is there anywhere on the web that is easy to check ? Just Googling it doesn't always work
You cannot trust adverts and websites. If you want to know the genuine MIRO load it up and take it to a weighbridge.
I know I keep mentioning it but one of the mags had a letter from a caravanner who had just bought a new van.
Wanting to load it properly took it to the weighbridge and found it weighed way more than the MIRO.
Only 40 or 60kg below the gross laden weight, Despite all the figures saying he had a 200kg loading limit.
Manufacturer replated the caravan with a higher weight. That was acceptable for the owner. But if you bought the van within limits of your car then it wouldnt have been so easy.
Thanks for that , I know we would have to check the actual van but when looking I want an easy way to get an idea of the Miro and mptlm as if it's too high there is no point even looking at the caravan ? I was hoping there was a site or forum that might list miro etc this will help us decide what caravans to actually view
Email the dealer or seller... I don't know why, but they often leave this information out, when it's actually one of the most important things you need to know!
I'm sure if you post up make, model & year of any specific caravan you are interested in then somebody on here will put you right. As pointed out, you can't really trust data on private ad's anyway but dealers should have correct info in caravans they sell.
As stated it is the maximum loaded weight you need to be looking at..mtplm not miro which is the empty weight + a few bits & bobs. What sort of size caravan are you looking for?
Hi Jack and Grampian - our kerb weight is 1350 so 85% is1148 , this is quite light particularly as I fancy a fixed bed . So I'm looking at caravans with mptlm of 1148 . I've got a teach yourself caravanning book from the CC and printed out various data sheets from C&CC too . I have looked at nose weight scales on amazon and have seen you can buy scales to weigh your caravan and contents ( payload ! ) are they ok or is a weigh bridge needed ? I am trying to prepare as best as I can as don't want any accidents . At the moment we will use our Golf to tow but will upgrade our other car next year for something meatier , then if all goes well we could upgrade to a bigger van after that .
Thanks so much for taking the time to help
You can buy axle weigh pads but expensive so over the top really. Most caravanners just have a noseweight gauge or use bathroom scales & pieces of wood. If you load caravan with normal gear like clothes/food/awning you won't come anywhere near max load but if you are bothered just weigh the individual items on bathroom scales.
