I just hate laminate flooring. Maybe it's easy to clean but that's about all really. It looks so uninviting, cold, dog's can't get a grip on it and when you go to the loo in the middle of the night there's nothing worse than a cold floor. Carpet for me every time...home from home.
I'm half way through doing my caravan floor, I'm using this as it is lighter, cheaper and easier than laminate flooring I'm going to put some rugs down on top so its a bit warmer but removeable for easy cleaning
Laminate could cause a weight issue - it's not light stuff - plus you would have to consider the extra height laying it would cause - will cupboard doors still open? Also it isn't really designed to get too wet unless it is sealed.
Better option would be wood effect vinyl - easy to fit, easy to keep clean and warmer than laminate.
Because people have different choices of flooring, Coachman came up with a new idea a few years ago whereby they installed a vinyl flooring with screwed in press studs to which removable carpets with press studs around the perimeter were matched up respectively to stop them slipping which was an excellent idea. That way each buyer could decide which type of flooring they wanted so everybody was happy so it's well worth considering as an option if you can obtain the appropriate caravan mats and press studs.
I removed my carpet and I used a vinyl plank similar to the picture above.
I have found that it expands and subtracts a lot over the season.
Sometimes there are large gaps other times it looks great.
Next time I will use vinyl sheet like in bathrooms.
i put laminate flooring in the kitchen area of my van its effective and easy to clean , you can get a lightweight thin laminate but obviously its not going to last as long as heavy duty but then you do not use your van as often as your house so it lasts for a longer time
I have vinyl flooring that looks like laminate and is excellent, but which is rather cold underfoot if you have to get up in the night.
So to make the van more cozy, I put 4 or 5 large long-strand cream bath mats down, from the lounge right though to the bathroom at the back, which are excellent for keeping the floor warm, for absorbing water off shoes and waterproofs, and are completely washable when I get home.
