needing some advice as to where would be the best place to look for our first van.we are in sw Scotland ive tried ebay gumtree preloved caravan autotrader is there somewhere im missing or is my location hindering my search. budget is 2500 max ideally four berth please advise thanks
hi stu have you tried http://www.caravanfinder.co.uk/selling.html or even had a look at the classifieds on here?
scotads,ad trader etc are other good places to try.
but please make sure you take along someone who knows what to look out for, take a damp meter too and dont be afraid to use it.
other good piece of advice is DONT tell any seller its your first caravan your buying as they may try and take advantage especially if it has defects. always say your upgrading from your slighlty older caravan youve just sold.
another tip is try and secure as many extras as you can such as awning, waste hogs, water barrell, hitch lock and wheel clamp etc, this potentially could save you hundreds.
good luck

if a seller has nothing to hide, then they wont mind you using one at all. if however they start objecting......
personally id walk away
when i bought the abbey last year(a year ago today actually) i had every cusion ff the van, every door opened and every nook and cranny checked. made up all the beds, checked out everything, took me nearly 2 hours. seller didnt mind and indeed complimented on how thourough i was

yeah that's a good point. id be taking my brother in law along anyway. i say its our first van although both me and the misses have been away in caravans so not entirely novices. was hoping to find one soon, do any work needing done and make the most of the year ahead.
should have asked, how far are you willing to travel for a van stu? theres a lovely van for sale at my storage site, think its a five berth but not sure on the price. if you want i can find out for you?

Hi Ayrstu, We are north of the river and were looking for "an affordable van" late last summer. Found one on Gumtree. It was on a storage yard near Kilbirnie.
We had to leave it there for several months until we got rid of our Folding Camper to make room for the van and so we were travelling up and down to Kilbirnie for a while.
They are around and you will get one eventually. Just keep watching the websites and don't be in a rush to buy the first one you see.
Hi there....we are novices to van ing... now I know what I know I would have done things differently
you must make sure your car is heavy enough and has the power....I bought a vw passat diesel and just assumed it would do so never bothered worrying about the caravan weight as we only wanted a single axle... my car is 1572 kg and the caravans MPTL fully loaded is 1450 kgwwhich to an expert maybe ok....but I maybe should have thought about getting a lighter caravan as mine is modern but if I'd have thought of a lunar I could have got a van 150kg lighter....but I'm ok with what we've got but I'm just very nervous of hills because of this....just give it lots of thought and research
