Why avoid a site with a bar?! I guess it depends where you stay but we have visited plenty, we go early take uno, pass the pigs etc stay until around 9pm and go home with the kids and have never encountered any problems or rowdy behaviour, there's more noise from those who indulge pitch side all evening - presuming this is what you meant Alan. I have to say with a few exceptions we do prefer the Best of British sites it's all just so easy and pleasant,

My 3 kids aged 7,6 and 3 don't mind basic CL type sites, they love the open space to play and we take games to keep them amused. However we tend to mix it a bit on holiday as we rarely stay in one place for more then a few days, so we mix it around and will stop at CLs and bigger sites so we save a bit of money and the kids are kept happy.
I remember taking them last year for three nights to a CL no hookup or facilities, we were the only ones there but just open fields and walking distance to a country park with play area there and they loved it. Just running around the field with a ball or frisbee or playing hide and seek or tig, they enjoyed themselves so much on site we only went once to the country park.
They got so muddy I was grateful of the shower in the van too. Lol

We chose our van because of the washroom/loo facility.
Our last outfit had a pokey loo/shower combined, which was awkward at best.
Now we have a decent 'bathroom', we never use site facilities. Trailing back and forth - often in crappy conditions, with all your kit to queue up for a shower, and stood in someone elses mucky water? No thanks.

We avoid sites with bars because the site fees are generally higher, and we don't go to the pub at home. Nothing to do with noise at all .... in fact I am one of those who would probably avoid an Adults only site too - love the sound of kiddies playing.
