thank to all that replied to my post the A 890 runs from the kyle of lochalsh to loch ness
road up to the A 832 gairloch road at achnashee went up it last night on google maps does'nt look too bad couple of single track bits but most of it two way traffic will give it ago give the wife a sleeping tablet before we set of should be ok !! anyway thanks alot to you that replied
Allan-D, you should be fine, have seen a lot of hefty caravans on that road. Plus a goodly number of commercials use both roads from Inverness heading to Skye or Ullapool for the ferry to Stornaway. Just take it steady and look well ahead (and behind) on the single track sections. Build in time for plenty of stops - scenery is stunning, so your good lady might not appreciate the sleeping pill!

Where the heck is the A890?
Subsequent post explains but you may have read about it in news- a landslip has twice caused people to make 150 mile detours in the last 30 months!! Allan-D need not panic, though, as they've done a lot of work on the landslip prone section.

Hi Allan, where do you intend going after you get to Ullapool, any idea which direction you'll be heading. I worked up that way long time ago in a place called Eribol, between Durness and Tongue, a beautiful and wild part of the country. Not many steep roads as the road follows the coastline practically all the way to Thurso, but numerous places to stop and enjoy the scenery.
hi welshwyn we normally go to scourie from ullapool been to thurso that way it takes ages to drive round loch eribol but as you say the scenery is beuatiful so not in a hurry anyway hope you get back up that way again someday nice site at durness called sango bay i think
