Hi i am hoping to go this route (A38) is it very busy on a Friday at 8pm is it best to avoid (Derby) and stay on the M1 any input would be great thanks

8pm, you should be able to drive straight through, although there have been some lane closures over night, but no queues that I've seen. There were no problems last night at 7pm near Markeaton island.
