As some of you know we are about to start our caravaning adventure having had a good few years tenting.
My question for today is this (apologies for the personal nature!!! Lol)...
What do you wear to bed in your caravans???
We are used to wearing many layers plus fleeces, hats, socks etc in the tent. I know it will be warmer in the caravan but will we still need more than the usual PJ's?
The last thng I want is to be cold but equally I don't want to use up valuable packing weight with kg's worth of bedtime layers which might not be needed.
A lot will depend on whether you have any heating on and what time of year it is. However, you will find you stay considerably warmer than you do in a tent and thus should need less layers.
I wear normal PJ's with either a long or short sleeve top depending on what time of year it is. DH sleeps 'au natural'.
We wear PJ's and our daughter wears a onesie. We use duvets and keep some light fleecy blankets in there in case its cold. Once or twice I've had to wear a hat and socks but thats been in March and October. I keep a fleece jacket handy for the morning before the fire is lit.
I take two nighties, one a warm cuddly one, and one cotton one. At this time of year, I would take the warmer one, later in the year I will take the cotton one. I have a three season sleeping bag to sleep in. I also take a fleece dressing gown, which I can also sleep in if the night temps drop a bit low - or can be used on top of the sleeping bag as an extra blanket!
I don't have any heating in my van, but take a delonghi bambino oil filled radiator in case it's a bit too chilly.
PJs + Duvalay + fleece blanket for emergencies which we haven't used for 2 or 3 years. We have Alde heating which we set to 14 degrees for overnight to kick in if it goes below that, but it rarely does - just once in 4 nights last (long) weekend.
Middle of winter three feet of snow outside in the past we still turn off all the heating. We make the bed up with two duvets ( both 13.5 tog) then I have pjs and Anne a cotton nightdress. Never been cold yet.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013
For us its a sleeping bag and usual long t-shirt type nighty, OH sleeps in just his vest, most of the time theres no heating on overnight, but we leave it on low electric setting if its a chilly night.
In Summer we abandon the sleeping bags for just a fleece blanket, and if its really hot we then sleep under the fan, often with the roof lights on Night vent setting.
We have tent camped many years ago one Easter and woke up to our tent sagging with the weight of the snow and a blizzard blowing, we were fairly well wraped up but we were all still frozen, so we quickly packed away and headed down to a cafe in the town centre for a good hot breakfast and warming drinks, that was the end to our early and late season tent camping, and after a couple more seasons of summer camping, and two more new additions to the family, we moved onto buying a caravan, and never really been cold in one since.

I usually sleep in my trusty sleeping bag although in the summer when I'm away I usually just lie on top of the bed with a t-shirt on.
My dear OH bought me a onesie for the van this year. Needless to say it is still in the wrapper and will remain so until it goes in the clothes skip. I utterly hate them.
