I have a Freedom caravan & awning, which creeks with the wind. It is more noticeable at night as our heads are closest to the awing side. Just wondered if anyone has the same issue and how to resolve it. Not to put the awing up is not really an option as there is little space inside to start with for our stuff.
Identify the area where the creaking is coming from and use foam pipe lagging around the poles, very easy to do and works for me.
Cheap to buy and very light to carry.
so does ours, I thought it was normal for it to 'give' a little in the wind... never even occurred to me to try and cure it. Just part of the camping experience.
TBH, my back creaking bothers me more than the awning.
I always need the awning with my caravan as well, as it's very small. It creaks, flaps, and all sorts in windy weather! Sometimes it depends on how flat the ground is, and how taut I managed to get it before pegging down. Sometimes, just the odd tweak of a pole to square it up a bit better is enough to stop a lot of it. And sometimes I have to just grin and bear it!
If you have a side awning with no back to it (just goes up against the caravan, you might find that it's where the poles are rubbing against the sides of the van, so you could use foam there, it might help.
Mine is a drive away awning, so there is a tunnel between it and my caravan, and it fits on the back or the side.
Like snags said though, a little creaking is normal.
