We have just been to clean our van . We are going away for Easter.
The roof was very dirty. My oh is well in his seventies and although quite fit I worry about the task. It is the roof that is the problem.
How do you all manage . We have to take the water plus step ladder with us .
It is a big job.
I did say let try and get it cleaned.
How do you all manage. The caravans are so high now. Our first van was quite small and low.

Its not easy cleaning the roof unless you have something like TT mentioned, or some other kind of stable platform on level ground.
It is difficult with a pair of step ladders and dangerous as they are very unstable especially when you are at the top and possibly stretching over with the brush to get to the middle of the roof and around the edges of the skylights.
Afraid there is no easy answer unless you get a company to just clean the roof, it would only need done once or twice a year where the rest of the caravan is easier to do more often yourself.

It is a fool who has to say something.
We have the same problem too being on a storage site.
I'm young and able enough to do the roof on ours, but my local carwash quoted £30 for an complete exterior wash and wax (without using pressure washer), so I took them up on the offer.
Much easier, safer, and quicker than doing it myself.
I will still do the front, back, and sides while we are away on sites over the year, and then return next year to have the roof done again.
The way I figure it is that you cannot see the roof, so I don't bother about it that much. Only problem is if it is not done, during heavy rain, the dirty just washes down the rest of the van so you have to wash it again.
I did my van lasts week whilst in storage with the wash without water stuff from aldi, i used my tall ladders with a floor mop, the type used on a wooden floor that has micro cloth attached and I got it clean and ime only 5 ft 2 and female lol or failing that I would ask a nice neighbours son, if there are any near to you and treat him for doing it...
Hi Nora,I am 75,my van is kept on a storage site without water so to wash my van I have to take up water in containers and a step ladder, long handled brush, and a flat piece of wood.Place the step ladder on the flat wood to keep it stable on the soft ground then you can reach one side of the roof, then go to the other side to get that side done.Like others have said I only clean the roof at the start of the season, then again at the end when I use Fennicks winter coating to protect the van during the worst of the weather.
I use an extendable brush that you would normally connect to a hose pipe. Still have to use step ladders but can do the whole roof with moving the ladders two or three times. I also drop the nose of the van so it drains off. I also have two big buckets with lids so I can take everything down with me.
Last year we got a mobile valet service to clean ours, because our van is long and big it was the best £60 i ever spent, as well as gleaming i just sat back and let some one else do it.
For a single axle he took £40 and would be less if a couple of us had arranged him to be there as his call out is the same for one person...maybe worth a look.
Thanks for all the replies . I feel better reading how you all cope. I think we need a new and better even slightly higher steps. Plus I think to have it cleaned at least once a year has to be worth it .
