Hi. We have blown air heating in our caravan it is fed through cardboard like tubes to the appropriate outlets. My question is under the seating there is storage space where we store things like bedding ( Duvalays ) and they are up against the tubes which get quite hot, do you think it is safe to store them in this manner or not. Thanks in advance
I was wondering that too Camcroft. I was thinking that I should cover the hot pipe with some sort of wire shield to create an air gap between the pipe and the locker contents.
Thanks lobby. How are you keeping. we have booked our first weekend away this weekend and it will be a learning curve on how to become a full blown tin tenter
If the bedding is stored in the locker up against the tubes, it will only be when you are using the caravan and the bed is not made up. When being stored obviously no heat.

By definition, if the bed isnt made up, the linen is stored against the tubes - with heat on presumably? (in colder weather).
Whatever. I think folk can worry too much about this and that. Yes, you want to be safe, but enjoy it at the same time.
If you thought about it long enough, you wouldnt caravan at all. Who wants to sleep 4 feet from a couple of lethal LPG 'bombs', which is what your gas bottles are!
This is one of these questions that can have a multitude of answers.
Yes, it is "possibly" safe to store bedding of the cotton or linen variety against these pipes, however not all bedding is either cotton or linen and many bags that hold some bedding are man made fibre and I certainly would not store anything like that next to any hot pipes.
Also that locker in my van is not designated to store only bedding. So again I would be very careful as to exactly what I stored in that locker.
Dried foodstuffs, okay, other foodstuffs definitely not!
In actual fact what we will be storing in the locker that contains the hot air supply pipe will be stuff like the Windbreaks, the TV Aerial, personal bags and medical equipment. The mere fact that that locker also contains the Battery Box, Charger and the MCB, means that it has limited storage capacity anyway.
However, during transport it many contain equipment that during a stay on site would live in the overhead lockers and therefore not be in contact with that pipe when it is hot.
Like many of the anomalies that we come across when camping, Common Sense is top priority.

Thanks Camcroft.
I had a bad fall back in January and I am still recovering from that so getting my van ready for the summer is a slow process, but it is progressing.
Mrs Lobey has WRI stuff on until the end of April so we will not get away until May. We will use that month to do some shake-down trips before we head south into the Badlands of England then Wales for a month in June.
Must do that this year before Alex Salmond closes the Border in September and rebuilds Hadrian's Wall.
After the Kiddiewinkies go back to school, we will head north and finish the summer on the West Coast from Kintyre to Ullapool.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013

That does surprise me when you say the bed locker is not big enough. The locker that I use starts off at 2m and has a 60cm section separated off that holds the battery, charger, fuses, rcds, and the like. In the rest of it I carry most of our bedding which is usually two blankets ( just in case) plus two king size duvets one 13.5tog the other 9tog wrapped up ( one duvet on top of the other folded in half then folded the other way in thirds ) so that I can just unroll it onto the bed at night. That lot fits easily and I could if I want take a second 13.5 tog instrad of the 9.
