It's blowing a gale & Russ has to tow our new van for very first time...he gets home, bit stressed, blah blah, but he managed!
(Now for some demographics..hope that's the right word)..our house is a semi, & we share a drive with the next semi. (next semi is for sale after owner died, her daughter lives opp us, & it's her mums house that's for sale).
I had already asked if we could park van on driveway temp, until we could move it onto the front of ours, & we were told that was fine.
Tyres on van were on *our side* however about a foot was on *their side*.
In a nutshell we were told it was going to impact on them selling the house. Explained again it was a temp measure etc.
A few hours later, we were met by a barrage of threats, *move that van or else, solicitor, rental charges, eviction (we rent our home)..all delivered in a very angry manor (from someone we would call a good neighbour).
We called our friends & they came round, reversed the van onto the front of our house..all the van now on *our* side, only for my next door neighbour to come out yelling at us for parking it there! He said some ridiculous things to my friends, accusing them of being on our side, when they were his friends first, What??...(these are the neighbours that I have had issue with re their dog barking, as I have posted here about)
Our beautiful van has resulted in 2 neighbours having a very nasty go at us.
I do not know how this has left me feeling, sad & hated I guess. Baffled, after all I got *permission* to encroach onto the driveway. All the viewings previously have not resulted in a sale. Shocked to be spoken to in such a way.
Leaving all the arguments and bad feeling aside, we used to keep our caravan on our front drive and when we put the house up for sale it would not sell even after reducing the price a lot
after nearly 2 years it was suggested we moved the caravan, once we had done this and put the price back up the house sold within weeks
Coincidence or not the house sold.
It would have been nice if your neighbors had explained their feelings about it rather than an or else attitude
As long as legally you are allowed to keep it on your front and your landlord is ok with it then there is nothing they can do. Some people are just miserable. Enjoy your caravan. My next door neighbour used to drop hints about us using storage for ours but I told her why would I spend the price of 2 holidays when outside my house is free she didn't drop any more hints after that
------------- Live life to the full you are a long time dead
Just a dispute between neighbours, pointless looking for reasons why. You are entitled to keep your caravan on your property & thats it. If you don't engage your argumentive neighbours in conversation then there will be no argument. Simple as that.
Check you aren't breaching any tenancy conditions or local byelaws (second one unlikely) and if so, you are perfectly entitled to tell them to "do one"
Also assuming your landlord isn't friends with these people as well I guess
I can imagine they may be worried if the van blocks light from their house or is over bearing if they are trying to sell. However, come and talk to you politely rather than they way they have and you could have agreed to move it when they had someone coming. Now i would definitely leave it there and play your tv / radio really loud when someone comes to view it!
More importantly, ignore them and smile and enjoy your van!
Can see their point, caravans in driveways do not sell houses for some reason.
But what a total a**e of a neighbour, surely he could have been polite and civil and asked for you not to park there while the house was for sale.
We are lucky, we have understanding neighbours. We often have the van at the door a couple of days before going away. It blocks the light to our kitchen and I must admit from the kitchen it is not a nice view, the side of a caravan.
Well done to Russ bye the way, for completing his first round trip safe and sound.
Pity that the euphoria was so short lived but you can't please everybody and as long as you have been reasonable and it sounds like you certainly have, that is all you can do. Try and ignore it as much as you can and enjoy futher trips away from them.

------------- Never argue with an idiot, they will drag you down to their level and beat you on experience.
Mark Twain.
My first trip home from Louth to Thetford with the 'van was a bowel rattler...then I broke a window reversing it into our drive. But we have no neighbours - no one saw it.
I'm happier with a caravan and no neighbours. Doesn't help I know but well done getting it home.
------------- Too old to put up a tent but still like waking up to skies and grass...not a cold hotel
Tbh even I when I had a driveway, I still kept my van in storage. Guaranteed it would have caused too much aggro and where I live aggro would have meant damage to said van.
For under 4 quid a week it really is peace of mind.
------------- Who needs travel agents,we have our static
Thanks guys for your support. Landlord rang me, told him the tale, % the van is wholly on our land, etc & he was fine about it.
Funnily enough landlord was not rung to say we had moved it off the shared drive!
Started putting our bits' in to the van..where does a bin go lol?? Can't wait for Sunday though I am nervous about being the passenger as I am terrible under normal circumstances..deep breaths Jax, deep breaths
had an issue with a neighbour years ago about my works van,got a friend with an artic truck to park out side her house for the day.that soon shut her up.
