I've just booked a site for this weekend, first trip out this year :) I found a site, just phoned and have been left stunned. It is a Caravan Club site that accepts non members, so as I've not renewed CC this year due to their escalating charges I just assumed it would be a separate field to the CC members. I've just been told over the phone that not only is the pitch charge and adult rate classed as high season from this weekend for 2 weeks, I've also been charged a £20 non member fee!! If I wasn't meeting friends there I wouldn't have bothered booking but it has just reminded me why I'm not a CC member anymore and with all the bad press about travel companies charging higher rates in the school holidays it's clearly not any different with caravan sites :(
I'm confused - you're not a member so why shouldn't you be charged a non-members fee?
It's Easter, the schools are on holiday, demand is high - everywhere is doing peak prices. Been like that for years and will be for future years...why should caravan sites be any different?

I was always under the impression that both the CC and C&CC sites charged a certain price, but, if you are a member you get a discount. Which is slightly different to being charged extra for being non-members.
Actually we've booked all our holidays this year on CC club sites. I find them quite reasonable for the price we pay and definitely for the quality of the sites.
I'm not having a go at you, but I would like to think that we get the sites quite a bit cheaper than a non member, otherwise what's the point of us paying membership?
I accept that we pay more for our pitches due to us only holidaying in school holidays (don't like it), but that is why we bought a caravan, so we can afford to holiday at all.
Maybe a gallon of wine with your friends on holiday will help!
It's been a long winter! Like I said I needed a moan and its out of my system now :) We are C&CC members and have over the years found their sites less regimented than CC sites and we've stayed at some lovely privately owned sites all found through this site. Looking forward to this weekend now and chilling out :)
Sorry, but I don't understand the reason for your moan. If you didn't renew your previous membership then you should expect to be charged extra as a non-member, which you now are. Just because you were once a member doesn't mean you should expect to still pay the same price.

Easter is always expensive (but will still be busy which should tell you everything you need to know) and of course a non member would (and should) pay more than a member on a club site
I guess my point was why is a CC site offering space to non members and then charging a £20 fee when they could surely fill the site with their own members as it is 'high season'and allegedly a period of high demand. I just assumed that the non members bit would be sited away from the CC members area.
As Sunshinetours said it was a vent and thank you we will enjoy our first trip out :)
I was a member of both clubs but have dropped the c&cc membership as we don't get away often enough to be a member of both. I don't think the CC is any dearer but the sites are of a more consistent quality ( probably due to being regimented ).
It isn't any cheaper staying at club sites than a lot of private sites.

I can understand your moan and I often have a similar moan. Everything is costing unacceptably more these days. I used to be a member of the C&CC but a combination of things actually made it more expensive than using ordinary sites so I left.
I think the answer is to take time to search through UKCS campsite reviews and create a list of those you feel are reasonably priced in your UKCS 'virtual brochure' and use those sites...leave the expensive sites to those who don't think they are
I wish the CC and the CCGBI would both make all sites members only but I can understand that they need to fill sites so charging non-members extra is reasonable.
------------- We camped for years. In 2019 we bought an Elddis Avante 454. We like it as it is short (6.9m) and fits in our driveway and has a fixed bed.
We had 127 nights away in the caravan in 2023.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
