We have found a site we would like to permanently site a tourer (Erwbarfe in Wales), now the tricky bit, finding a tourer. We live around the Walsall area, and would like any recommendations for a honest caravan dealership. We don't mind travelling out Shropshire way, A5 etc. We have a £2k budget, but also need the van moving to the site for us. A lot to ask I know, any thoughts?
I would be more inclined to buy privately using the local classified Ads, as long as you are careful and thoroughly check for any issues like damp, etc.
You are far more likely to get a good deal - quite often a private seller will include things like awnings and accesories.
Buying from a dealer reputable or not does not always guarantee a trouble free deal!
Have you looked at the adverts on here? Be very careful to check for damp as others have said. There are companies that will move it for you. Ask Bryn or Priscilla, they may know someone who could help you. If I hear of any on the site I will let you know.
You won't get much from a dealer for £2k but you will be able to find a nice van on the private market, just like I did for £1600.
Be prepared to look hard though as most of what you will see will probably be no good, and invest in a damp meter.
I don't see any benefit in buying from a dealer in this price range, they don't provide water ingress warranty at this sort of price and in my opinion you gert more honesty from alot of private buyers than you do from caravan sales people.
I found mine in a free ad paper, but you just need to keep looking, and if you find a van that suits you and its dry with no major chasis problems then you will be there!
An indentical van to the one I bought last year for £1600 is advertised at a dealer in Wigan for £3495 and it has no warranty at this price.
I got my lunar off ebay 3 years ago, touch wood its been fine, although it was expensive, well to me anyway,I quite agree,at 2k dealers are out, look at privately owned ones and if possible take someone along with a bit of knowledge. And beware, you cant always see or smell damp so main places are round the windows and across roof inside behind lockers etc.
Erwbarfe have recently started selling tourers. It may be worth you giving them a ring.
Great site btw, we went last year and loved it.
Think they call it devils bridge tourer sales, if you like their camp site page on Facebook they link to that too.
------------- Never take life seriously. Nobody gets out alive anyway.
We found ours on gumtree last year,it was within 10 miles of home and we saved around £500 on dealer prices by buying off a private seller .It is still worth more than we paid for it,including the cost of the full service we had on it when we bought it.
