I can't recommend any particular brand of exterior paint but whatever you use make sure you use a good quality brush to achieve a better finish as there's nothing worse than doing a good job only to find unsightly brush marks afterwards left behind on the finish. I would have thought that a good quality car paint would be best as the surface needs to expand and contract with the outside temperatures.
Your'e welcome but it's a pity that nobody else could offer any further advice for you. However, it's probably down to the fact that very few people attempt painting their caravan and those that have are probably not members of UK Campsite.
I have a static caravan and I purchased some caravan paint from a guy called Tony at Promain he was so helpful and mixed the paint to the exact colour I required, he said use an acrylic as it if flexible unlike most paint so it stretches when the van is moved, you can find him at www.promain.co.uk www.promain.co.uk, best of luck
the cost difference is massive how many aerosols would it would take to paint a mobile home where as I used 10 litres and it is also water based offering a life expectancy of 10 years, I do agree for small areas a car spray with a plastic adhesion primer would be great, remember always clean with mentholated spirit before you paint to remove any dirt or grease, best to speak to Tony at Promain for more advise.
I have recently purchased a VW camper van and as the prices have risen so much in last few years i had to purchase one that was a little tatty. I remember speaking to Tony at Promain https://www.promain.co.uk and he told me about Rustoleum Combicolor. I did a little prep with a wire brush in my drill, put some Combicolor primer on and then painted the door with a mini roller. I gave it 4 coats and then rubbed it down with 1200 wet and dry. I followed with a T Cut and then polish and it now looks better than the rest of the van.
painting is all down to prep work, no use getting a good finish if painting outside in a windy day, combi colour can be mixed to any colour you require, rub surface down with wet and dry keep dipping it in water when rubbing down helps keep dust down, when dry wipe over surface with a lint free cloth, or rub down with a green scrubber ( like in kitchens for pans) use the same undercoat as per topcoat. do the edges with a brush then while edge wet roll the panels in use a 4 inch foam roller buy packs cheap enough.
as for paint combicolor multisurface is ok thinners is white spirit. I wouldn't use a water based paint on a exterior project, and any claims of life expectancy ignore because if you claimed because the film broke down they would argue a multitude of excuses ie, surface not prepped correctly yes I have been in the trade for over 40years
