I'm hoping someone might be able to help.
I recently chatted to someone who was washing his caravan with a portable power washer - which seemed a great idea to my wife and I. We chatted to him and he explained how it worked and how pleased he was with it.
I seem to remember noticing that his pressure washer had a 20 litre capacity. However, when I have looked online, virtually every portable pressure washer I have seen has had a capacity 0f 8 litres, and occasionally I have seen one of 10 litres.
Our caravan is stored on a farm and we would like to take the pressure washer, filled with warm water to the site. We'd then have access to cold water to rinse the caravan at the farm. Would a 10 litre pressure washer have the capacity for us to do this? - or do we need to source a larger one?
All the pressure washers I have used have no capacity and rely on a continuous water supply. I wouldn't use one on a caravan for fear of washing out the sealant around the joints.
As mentioned I would be really nervous about pressure washing, I had the same great Idea whne we bought our van until a few weeks later when I spotted a leak and it looked fresh!
Pressure washers need a separate continuous supply, so you need to be in reach of tap for hose, you don't need warm water, modern detergents work ok with cold water. I think you will find the 10lites etc, refers to flow rate.
Pressures washers can be used for cleaning caravans but as pointed out, keep nozzle at a distance, don't be tempted to blast dirt out of seams as you might blast out sealant as well. To say pressure washers should not be used to washing caravans is to credit the user with no sense, Its obvious a powerful water jet should be used with care.
If you have access to a water tap then i think Snow Foam would be a better alternative than just using a pressure washer. The gun can be bought on line as well as the foam.
As above,if you stand to close with a pressure washer there is a chance you will damage the seals.Snow foam will clean your van and you can stand back with the lance just to clean it off...Click
Thank you for all of your advice. I think I may have given a misleading description of that I am looking for though.
I am not looking for a pressure washer that connects to a mains electricity supply and a tap - I was thinking about a container with a hand pump to make the water travel through a hose to a brush.
These all seem to have an 8 or 10 litre water tank capacity.
What are your thoughts on these? And would a 10 litre tank be sufficient to wash a caravan?
Hi we used to have a Marolex auto washer which had a 12 litre capacity.Found it very handy. I found it on the savemoneysavewater website , scroll down the page to our best buys section and its on there for about £25.
If I was you I'd save my cash. I bought one of these to do the kids bikes and other small jobs. It is utterly useless I can spit harder than it.
Ended up giving it away and is currently being used as water storage in a greenhouse

It comes with the requisite pipe that works very well from an Aquaroll. If you keep an eye on the Karcher outlet you can find their refurbished ones much cheaper, but you need the suction pipe.
For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013
I am going to go against the grain here. I bought a portable pressure washer from go outdoors last week, can't remember the price but it was cheap at about £10-15.
I too have only access to cold water, no hose pipe and no electric at my storeage site.
I washed my van (for the first time since August so it was dirty) with a bucket of weater and an extendable brush using turtle wax. I then used the pressure washer to rinse the van and it worked really well. They dont have lot of pressure, it is probably the wrong name for them. But as a tool to rinse your van they are great. I also use it to rine the dog down when we are away. You can put hot or warm water in.
Mine is 8 litre capacity I think and I filled it up twice to wsh my van.
i also bought the streetwize extendable brush from Go which ws also cheap and made the job really easy. Its designed to be used on the end of a hose but I just used it with a bucket just a you would with a cloth. It made really esy work of cleaning a dirty van.
I have a portable pressure washer... Its a MOBI V-17
as the name suggests, it has a 17 litre capacity. Has a chargeable battery within the base or can be plugged into a car 12v socket to power it . A shoulder strap for carrying is included. Primarily it was purchased to clean mountain bikes after use and before loading on the car, but has also been filled with warm water to wash down the horse on various occasions !It's not overly powerful, in as much as using high powered jets is not recommended on bikes let alone the horse !!
Ive never thought about using it to clean the caravan, as where mine is stored water is available.
I bought a hozlock one from b&q, if extra capacity is needed I'd use the aqua roll as the 10 litre is heavy enough. We use fenwicks products which work very well, only using a sponge with minimal effort which is great. Also use the washer to cover the van in bobby dazzler it does really work for us.
