I dont like the 2 long bench seats with a set of drawers at the end, looks cramped to me,L shape lounge with fixed bed, perfect for us.Big van anyway and only 2 of us,I think the L shape lounge gives more space in living area. But everyones needs are different,i want an island bed next.

thanks for all the replies, just to confirm, yes 10k is for the total outfit. so advice for both caravan and suitable towing car would be welcome.

I've had a look at the Ranger 460/4 and it looks like it could suit us.

I've just also seen a HOBBY 570 VIP 2008, might stretch the budget but do able, what do you think? this has an island bed too.

There are some 2nd hand ones about that could fit in the budget. I've only seen them on t' internet though. Will have to buy a damp meter and start doing some prodding.

thanks again

We have just bought a fixed bed - our first caravan - I think we can manage with less space as it will be just us and the dogs ( our kids won't come away with us anymore) and we are happy cwtched up together in a small space ! Also when in Europe we sit outside most of the time . It really comes down to personal choice and I guess family habits ! I am a lazy git and we just love our bed so I would hate having to make it up every day . We got our van for 7.5k with a year warranty so it is within your budget . However if you can't get one then as previously suggested you could just make the seats up into a bed and leave it . Have a few days out looking around the dealers that will help you picture what your day would be like eg kitchen space , somewhere to eat etc

We've recently got our first caravan after years tenting ('cos we're also now too old to rough it!). Paid £4k for a lovely 2003 model. It's in great condition, especially damp-free. Why spend more? Most 'vans only travel a few hundred miles each year. We debated long and hard about FB versus end shower room and are really pleased we didn't go with FB. Can't understand why people say it's a lot of fuss making up beds. It takes us all of three minutes and the same to pack away in the morning. And the seat cushions that we sleep on are way more comfortable then the FB's we tried.

Good luck.
